Recap / Supernanny USS 3 EP 14

Go To

The fourteenth episode of the third season of the US version of Supernanny.

Jo visits Naugatuck, Connecticut, where she meets Paul and Nina Cantoni, who have three children; six-year-old Nicholas, three-year-old Gabrielle, and one-year-old Giana. Nina is overwhelmed, especially by Gabby, who is headstrong, prone to temper tantrums, and tends to dominate the family dynamic. Paul is wrapped around her finger, and thinks he's defusing her temper by giving into her demands, when in actuality, he is undermining Nina as she tries to hold the line. Can Jo get Paul and Nina to work together?

This episode provides examples of:

  • A Boy, a Girl, and a Baby Family: Nicholas is the Boy, Gabby is the Girl, and Giana is the Baby.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Three-year-old Gabby can be very loud when she throws a tantrum.
  • Daddy's Girl: Gabby is very attached to Paul, because she knows that he's more of a softy when it comes to disciplining her.
  • Embarrassing Damp Sheets: It is revealed that the reason why Nina tries unsuccessfully to get Gabby to wear diapers to bed is because Gabby drinks large quantities of liquid (usually in Giana's baby bottle) so she can stay up longer.
  • Foolish Husband, Responsible Wife: Paul wants to be the buddy to Nick and Gabby, leaving Nina to handle all the discipline. This results in a Good Cop/Bad Cop scenario between the two of them, which they even describe as such in the submission reel.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: The littlest things set Gabby off, such as not being allowed to use real water in the teacup she uses for her tea party, and having to wear diapers to bed due to drinking large quantities of liquid before bed.
  • Injured Limb Episode: Nina has her arm in a sling, as she was recovering from a car accident that occured two years prior to the episode's events.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Giana, Gabby, and Nick have this respective dynamic. Giana is a sweet baby who doesn't cause any trouble, Gabby tends to throw temper tantrums when she doesn't get her way, and while Nick is more mature and level-headed than Gabby, he isn't immune to misbehaving just to get some attention.
  • Pushover Parents: Paul falls into this territory when it comes to disciplining his children, especially Gabby. Jo has to teach him how to properly discipline his children.
