This episode of SMG4 contains examples of:

  • An Ass-Kicking Christmas: Wouldn't be a Home Alone parody without it.
  • Badass Crew: If you needed a reminder that this cast can hold their own after the Anime Arc, they easily defeat Wario and Waluigi in seconds upon finding them in the castle ganging up on Mario.
  • Big Damn Heroes: After Mario runs out of traps and is cornered by Wario and Waluigi, the gang comes back out of guilt for abandoning Mario, going to town on the intruders.
  • Conscience Makes You Go Back: At the start of the episode, the gang rationalizes leaving Mario behind by saying it's his own fault for oversleeping that he missed the bus. By the end, however, they all realize how unfair they were and come back just in time to help him beat up Wario and Waluigi.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The entire episode!
    • Toad leaving to Las Vegas to make "Toad babies", referencing "Idiot karts 101"
    • Fox working a cashier references the two parter about the Bois and the city of gold.
    • Among the inanimate objects that Mario uses as replacements for his absent friends is Bowsur from ''Kushroom Mingdom" and "Area 64".
    • The T-Posing Wallace Turret is a surprising visual Call-Back to the Waluigi Arc.
    • The "spooky rater" from the Mushroom & Morons is used to scare Waluigi.
    • The iconic Chain Chomp from "Who let the Chain Chomps out?" is used as a boulder.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Every single one of Mario's traps is set off. Even the fake versions of his friends is used in ways similar to their characters.
  • Christmas Episode: True to the films it parodies, this is the 2019 Christmas Episode.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Wario and Waluigi really should have not given Mario that much prep time.
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: Mario's given a few hours to prepare for their break-in, but his traps manage to thwart most of Wario and Waluigi's attempts to get him. However, once Mario lets his guard down, they corner him in seconds with the intent to kill him for what he put them through. Luckily, the above Big Damn Heroes moment happens.
  • Death Course: Mario manages to, in the span of a few hours, turn the castle into one. Wario and Waluigi couldn't even get into the castle for the first three attempts!
  • Early-Bird Cameo: invoked This episode marks Melony's debut, when Mario creates her as a replacement for Meggy. However, she would not reappear in the series or receive her name until several months later.
  • Heavy Sleeper: Mario at the start of the episode. Because nobody can wake him up and he had locked the door, he misses the bus and is left alone in the castle.
  • Humiliation Conga: Mario's traps subject Wario and Waluigi to one.
  • Jerkass Ball: Mario's friends leaving him by himself was not a choice that they wanted to make, but they did so when they had to catch the bus.
  • Jerkass Realization: The rest of Mario's friends had one offscreen after abandoning Mario, realizing it wouldn't be Christmas without him, and apologize for leaving him alone... while beating up Wario and Waluigi.
  • Made of Iron: Wario and Waluigi have to be this to survive being shot at no less than twice, being stabbed, being blown up, getting repeatedly knocked around the room, getting set on fire TWICE, and run over by a ChainChomp. Oh, and the below trope.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: The episode ends with the gang taking turns beating the living stuffing out of Wario and Waluigi.
  • Not Quite Dead: Unfortunately for Mario, Wario and Waluigi SURVIVED his Death Course.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Toad bails on Mario (and by extension, the rest of the cast) to go to Las Vegas.
  • Smart Ball: Mario holds onto it for most of the episode when he overhears the Wario Bros. plan to rob the castle, only letting his guard down when he thinks he has defeated them.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
  • Took a Level in Badass: Mario, who is usually an incompetent Butt-Monkey, manages to set up a Death Course in the span of a few hours, making use of his improv friends, and even learns how to set up Minecraft pressure plates to make use of more traps!
  • Too Dumb to Live: The Wario Bros., NOT Mario, are the idiots in this episode.
    • For starters, when they find out Mario is there, they merely close the door, and comment ALOUD their plans to rob the castle in earshot of Mario, who is only crying on the other side of the door. They brought the beating they received on themselves.
    • They give Mario an incredible amount of prep time of a few hours, and don't even keep an eye on him for the duration, allowing Mario to prepare in silence and find good hiding spots where he can witness the carnage.
    • Their first attempt to break-in has the two attempt to walk in through the front door. While they are scared by the fake gun, it gets them to lower their guard enough for the Wallace robot to shoot them.
    • After barely surviving one gun trap, the Wario Bros. keep trying to break in, despite knowing Mario set traps everywhere. This gets them shot again by the Thwomp in the basement.
    • They forget how dangerous Piranha Plants really are, and mock the plants in the Garden. This gets them attacked.
    • The Bros., after FINALLY getting in the foyer, the two immediately try to climb the stairs rather than look around for anything nearby that could trigger a trap. Cue the Humiliation Conga they suffer.
    • When Wario and Waluigi FINALLY circumvent the gauntlet, Waluigi notices an invitation to Super Smash Bros.. Despite Wario CLEARLY telling him to not touch anything until they dealt with Mario, Waluigi can't help but pick it up... triggering the Chain Chomp.
    • And finally, when Mario's friends finally return to spend Christmas with him, Wario, out of frustration, declares he is not being stopped from robbing the castle. Yelling this in earshot of the Badass Crew gets him and Waluigi a free No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To Home Alone, of course.
