Toyman has returned. This time, however, he no longer wants revenge on the late Bruno Manheim. He has his eyes set on Lana Lang's newest model, Darci Mason.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Anti-Villain: Darci is a robot runaway from Toyman, who wants a life far away from him. She also tries to murder her boss when the latter wants to go to the police.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Superman does this when fighting Toyman's videogame-patterned Ninja. After getting pushed around by the Ninja's moves, Superman beckons it to "Come get it" with his hands, before using his superspeed and superhuman mind analyze his fighting patterns, predicting, learning and then counteracting the Ninja's moves before utterly destroying it with ease.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Darci survives the helicopter crash, but she's lost her job as Lana's top model, and it's implied that while she murdered Toyman (she didn't), the victory was hollow.
  • Bring It: Superman pulls one of these as he gets fed up playing with Toyman's videogame ninja, beckoning it to "Come get it" with his hands just before proceeding to utterly destroy it.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Lana once again gets in trouble trying to do the right thing, due to a villain trying to bump her off.
    • Toyman no longer seeks revenge on Bruno Manheim due to Bruno getting killed a few episodes earlier.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Subverted. Darci tries, but Toyman outweighs her in terms of manpower.
  • Disney Death: Toyman and Darci seemingly die in an airport explosion. They later turn up alive, Darci at the end while boarding a train, and Toyman in a Static Shock episode.
  • Expy: One of the reporters at the fashion show resembles Billy Batson.
  • Forced to Watch: Toyman locks Darci in a plastic box as he sets an electric field on Superman.
  • Gratuitous Ninja: The combatant that Toyman has fight Superman.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Toyman never built Darci with the intention of her having real emotions, but she eventually grew to desire a life outside of being his personal doll.
Darci: I guess he made me too perfect.
  • Lack of Empathy: Darci wants to kill Lana for wanting to go to the police, despite the fact that her boss is sympathetic to her situation. Given that Toyman himself is a sociopathic manchild with the same issue, it’s obvious he never installed a Morality Chip in her.
  • Loophole Abuse: Toyman programmed Darci to be incapable of directly trying to kill him, but at the last second she finds a way around that when she destroys the controls of his escape helicopter.
  • Motive Decay: With the man he tried to exact revenge against back in his previous appearance dead, Toyman needed another motive to do evil.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Darci is stronger than most humans and thus can grapple with them. Grappling with Toyman himself and what he sends, however, is quite another matter.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Lana on learning Darci's story wants to go with her to the police, so that they can get protection for Darci and to stop the latter from murdering Toyman. She's highly sympathetic to her model's plight, but tells Superman all the details when the latter rescues her.
  • Recycled Animation: When the mechanical Kangaroo punches Superman in the face, there's a full screen frame of a fire explosion, which is reused footage from "Where There's Smoke" when Volcana blasted Superman with a fire ball in the parking lot. This is used again later when Toyman's scoreboard explodes and finally when Toyman's helicopter blows up.
  • Restraining Bolt: Toyman programmed Darci such that she can't directly harm him, though he never thought to ensure she couldn't indirectly put him in danger.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Darci wants to kill Toyman for stalking and attempting to kidnap her. The thing is that he's installed a failsafe to prevent her from murdering him, and he has more firepower.
  • Robotic Reveal: Lana finds out that her top model, Darci, is actually one of Toyman's creations.
  • Tempting Fate: Toyman pits Superman against a robot ninja. After it lands a couple of hits, Toyman notices that Superman is trying to figure out its moves, but assures himself, "The program's too complex, he'll never figure it out." A second later, Superman completely evades an attack, showing he's worked it out.
  • Wham Shot: Lana catches Darci repairing her face, revealing why Toyman is after her.
  • Yandere:
    • Toyman tries to murder Superman when he thinks the man in tights is keeping Darci and Toyman apart.
    • Darci is an inversion; she doesn't want anything to do with Toyman, but she wants to murder him for messing up her new life.
