Recap / Summer Camp Island S 1 E 13 Its My Party

Go To

Oscar and Hedgehog are tasked with throwing Susie a birthday party; they need to hire an awesome boy band, lasso some unicorns and more standard magical party stuff.

Tropes:

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Susie helps Oscar and Hedgehog clean up the aftermath of her disastrous party, after being told by Alice that they probably like her if they stayed behind to clean up.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While Oscar doesn't like her, he believes no one deserves to be alone on their birthday, even if it is Susie. This is because no one, including Hedgehog, who had other plans, attended his fifth birthday party.
  • Is That a Threat?: When Alice sees that no one came to Susie's birthday party, she tells Oscar and Hedgehog to not ruin the party by showing off her dance moves to them. When Hedgehog questions if she's threatening them, Alice tells them she's showing off her most threatening dance moves, and she literally means it when she summons two storm clouds.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After Susie sings a sad Happy Birthday song and summons a large cupcake with a lit candle on it, a bat swoops in and takes her cupcake before she blows out the candle. To add insult to injuries, the bat blows out the candle and flies away. To add more insult to injuries, the bat returns the cupcake by throwing it at Susie's face while she's crying.
  • Malaproper: Alice warns Oscar and Hedgehog not to "Harm a single hair on [Susie's] precious little heart".
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone when Susie catches on to their Opposite Day plan.
  • Opposite Day: In order to get the campers to join Susie's party, Hedgehog tells them that they can play a game of saying the opposite of what they mean. That way, they can complain about Susie without her being aware of it.
Oscar: Hey Susie, you're so good at sharing. [You're really selfish]
Lucy: Susie, everything you do and say makes me so happy. [We're frustrated by your words and deeds]
    • This backfires when Lucy whispers how Susie never has to know the truth, so she shapeshifts into Oscar and talks with Hedgehog, who tells her (in disguise) that it was the only way to get guests to attend the party because no one could stand to be around her that much. By the time Pepper gives his speech, Susie catches on to their charade and wrecks the party.
  • Pet the Dog: After Susie's party ends in disaster, no thanks to her, Alice tells Susie that she still likes her and Oscar and Hedgehog probably likes her too since they stayed behind to clean up her party. Susie returns the favor to Oscar and Hedgehog by using her magic to clean up the party for them.
  • Rain Dance: Alice's "most threatening dance moves" conjures up storm clouds.
  • This Is Reality: No matter how amazing Susie's birthday party is, it will not be a enough to get everyone to change their opinion of her, and it definitely doesn't help that she acted like her usual self throughout the party.
Hedgehog: 'Cause at the end of the day, people just don't like Susie. You can't change people's mind with a unicorn petting zoo.
  • Surprise Party: It's what Susie wants, even though she's expecting it.
  • Twitchy Eye: Susie when Pepper makes his speech, which is actually supposed to insult her.
  • Wingding Eyes: Storm clouds appear in Susie's eyes as her anger rises.
