Recap / Strike Witches 2 Ep 8 Please Grant Me Wings

Go To

During training, Miyafuji's Striker Unit shorts out resulting in her losing several mock battles to Clostermann. No problems can be found with either the Striker Unit or Miyafuji's health that can explain why she cannot fly effectively, putting her military career in jeopardy. Meanwhile, an explosion on the battleship Yamato injures several men and Miyafuji and Bishop are sent to aid them. While there a Neuroi attacks the Fuso Allied Fleet, and with Miyafuji unable to fly, Bishop must make a stand alone against the Neuroi in order to cover the Fleet's retreat.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Delaying Action: Bishop tries to hold off the Neuroi by herself in order to buy time for the Fuso Allied Fleet to retreat. It finally pays off when Yoshika gets the Shinden and takes over...
  • Full-Potential Upgrade: Yoshika's old Zero Striker Unit can no longer handle her increasing magic power without shorting out and shutting down. She upgrades to a Shinden prototype at the end of the episode which fixes the problem.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Yoshika's new Shinden prototype.
  • Ramming Always Works: While charging at the Neuroi, Yoshika creates a shield powerful enough to penetrate the Neuroi's armor and once inside, the Neuroi's Core is filled with lead. Cue white shards.
  • She's Back: With the Shinden and an exhausted Lynette, Yoshika demonstrates this towards the Neuroi in this episode, leading to the above trope.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Both Mio and Minna acknowledge that Yoshika is no longer a rookie once they hear about she took down the Neuroi near the end of this episode.
