Recap / Stories Of Sodor S 4 E 3 Mountain

Go To

After years of inactivity, construction resumes on the Culdee Fell Railway. Work progresses fairly well and its engines become acquainted with the island and its history. However, their new home may not be as safe as first thought.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Adapted Out: Godred, Culdee, Shane Dooiney, and Eric are not part of the CFR fleet in this universe, the first three because their names would make the Revenant Theory implausible with their absurdity, and the latter to avoid confusion with the standard gauge Eric.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: In the book, Ernest was 2, Wilfred was 3, and Alaric was 8. Here, Alaric shares Harry's number 6 while Ernest and Wilfred share the number 4. This is because the models used were made in Trainz 2006, and the numbers were physically modeled instead of textured, meaning only the nameplates can be changed.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Harry, who started out as a Jerkass in the original story, is a bit more empathetic, with his haughtiness toned down.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: One opening shot is at the Marston Heights Coalmine, where Kate is watching Thomas talking to Samantha with an angry look on her face. Looks like Geoffrey wasn't joking when he claimed that Kate was the jealous type. This later gets elaborated on in "Prototypes", in which Kate does indeed think Samantha is trying to steal Thomas from her.
  • Mythology Gag: Two to the Mountain Engines book:
    • Duncan describes the way Wilfred and Alaric look word for word the way the narration describes Culdee.
    • Ernest braves a storm similar to No. 6.
