The Green Lantern has seemingly started committing crimes, much to Static's disappointment, but it turns out he is actually being framed by Sinestro, who has the power from his ring.
Tropes for this episode include:
- Badass Creed: John recites the Green Lantern oath, which impresses onlookers.Gear: Whoa. We really need an oath.
- Batman Gambit: Sinestro baited John by pretending to be a distressed astronaut in a distant location. As expected, after John arrived, he summoned his power battery for a recharge as a precaution. Once the battery was in view, Sinestro revealed himself, stole the battery, and fled. While Sinestro was wreaking havoc disguised as John, the real John drained much of his remaining power just getting back to Earth and was left too weak to face him alone.
- Battle Trophy: Green Lantern demands why Sinestro is after his lost ring since it's out of power. He replies it "would make a fine keepsake" before showing a wire bangle lined with Green Lantern rings, horrifying John.
- Broken Pedestal: As a black superhero, Virgil really looked up to John as a role model. Seeing him apparently committing crimes completely destroyed his faith in him.
- Crossover: With Justice League, though Green Lantern is the only present member.
- Deus Exit Machina: The rest of the Justice League was already away when Sinestro's phony distress call was picked up by the Watchtower.
- Easily Condemned: Static is quick to believe Green Lantern is committing crimes and doesn't hesitate in having him be arrested.
- Fakin' MacGuffin: Static tricks Sinestro into thinking a "Captain Dwayne's Decoder Ring" is John's ring.
- Hypocritical Humor: After Robert suggests that Virgil’s comment of “Garbage. Complete garbage” refers to his cooking, Sharon states that Virgil is never grateful for the food put in front of him… before spitting out the same food in private.
- Rebuilt Pedestal: Virgil's faith in John is restored once he learns Sinestro framed John.
