Tropes for this episode include:

  • An Aesop:
    • Being a hero isn't about the attention or showing off, but about protecting people.
    • Whatever mistakes you make, shifting the blame won't change that it was your responsibility.
  • Character Development: The episode starts out with Static proud of being a hero, to the point that he lets himself get carried away. After accidentally putting Daisy in a coma, he's angry at Puff and Onyx for their indirect involvement, but ultimately accepts it was his fault. After he's been humbled by the experience, Static faces off against Puff and Onyx again, only with a better awareness that they need to take the fight where no one can get hurt. Failing that, he puts all his effort into protecting the civilians from harm, allowing Rubberband Man to deal with the escaping bad guys.
    • Rubberband Man also has one two seasons in the making. He started out willing to get revenge on his adversary, even when it would get him unnecessarily arrested. Throughout the series, he's grown to be more and more like a hero. In this episode, it's Rubberband Man's turn to keep Static from taking senseless revenge on Puff and Onyx.
  • Continuity Nod: Puff and Onyx target Static and Rubberband Man out of revenge for them ruining their attempt to become metahuman bounty hunters.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: There was no guarantee Daisy would come out of the coma any time soon. It could've been months, maybe years before she woke up. By the end of the episode, after worrying for her, Virgil is relieved to hear the news that she's come to.
  • Foreshadowing: While enjoying himself too much, a distracted Static accidentally crashes into Rubberband Man and blames the avoidable situation on him.
  • Never My Fault: Static initially has this mindset after Daisy goes into a coma, unable to accept that she wouldn't be in that coma if it weren't for his pride.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Played for Drama. Had Static been more mindful of bystanders whenever he fought bad guys, perhaps Daisy wouldn't have been hit by the rubble that put her in a coma. Instead of being a simple mistake, it's played as something serious Virgil almost can't cope with being responsible for.
  • Only Sane Man: Rubberband Man is one of the few people who recognized that Static was getting too proud and foresaw that his recklessness would eventually hurt someone. Later, he stops Static from hunting down (and presumably killing) Puff and Onyx in anger.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Shiv stopped a kid from shoplifting, but only because he was the one stealing first.
  • Virtue Is Weakness: Puff mocks Static and calls him soft when he tries to protect the civilians in the final battle.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In a complete reversal role of their very first encounter in the show when Static tried to reason with a then-Revenge Before Reason-focused Rubberband Man, it is Rubberband Man this time who plays the Only Sane Man trying to talk down an increasingly hostile Static as he gives two of these to Static. The first is for letting the fame get to his head, to the point he's allowed himself to grow reckless when it comes to people's safety. The second is for trying to blame Puff and Onyx for putting Daisy in a coma when in reality, the blame falls at Static's feet.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Virgil learns the hard way that fighting villains isn't the only part of being a hero and that he has to prioritize keeping bystanders safe instead of whatever fun he's having.
