Virgil finds out that, due to his intelligence, he qualifies for a gifted school. He finds out that his new teachers are slightly older teens, Specs and Trapper, and has a new classmate, Daisy Watkins. Unknown to Virgil, Alva is funding the program to find a means to take down Static.
Tropes for this episode include:
- Chekhov's Gun: Since Daisy helped with the technology to build the robot, she utilizes her knowledge to take it down remotely.
- Continuity Nod: Alva is still after Static, after he broke into Alva Industries in "Aftershock".
- Endangered Soufflé: Virgil and Richie's souffle sinks in the middle of cooking class. Virgil starts charging it up with his powers; when he hears he's going to the principal's office, he overdoes it and sends it to the ceiling.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Seemingly invoked by Static, who leads the machine that Edwin Alva commissioned to catch him right to Alva's location. It ends up trashing Alva's office while in pursuit of him.
- Human Shield: Static grabs Alva and uses him as a hostage when the robot goes after him.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Virgil finds out that the project he and Daisy were working on was an Alva commission to take down Static — him.
- Shoot the Hostage: Specs and Trapper are ready to do this to Alva. Daisy pulls the plug on the machine they're remote-piloting just in time.
- The Smurfette Principle: Daisy is the only female student at the gifted school.
- So Proud of You: Robert hugs and kisses Virgil on hearing he's qualified for a gifted program.
- Status Quo Is God: Zig-Zagged; Virgil returns to his normal school and normal life. Daisy also transfers, since she says her parents think public school is safer now.
