Tensions boil over when Courtney decides to tell Cameron the truth. Meanwhile, Mike and Jakeem search for Cindy.

Tropes:

  • All-Loving Hero: Even though Sofus was just attacking her, Beth doesn't hesitate to save him when he starts having a heart attack. That said, it's pretty clear that unlike Lily, he was just trying to make the heroes leave, not hurt them.
  • Berserk Button: Mr. Deisinger pushes Lily's by mentioning the loss of Cameron's father.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just as Sofus is about to freeze Beth, Artemis breaks through the window in time to stop this from happening.
  • Character Death: Paul Deisinger gets killed by Lily with her freezing powers.
  • Easily Forgiven: Yolanda and Beth are quick to forgive Courtney for her deception regarding Cameron. Rick, on the other hand, is hesitant about that.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Even now when it has become clearer than ever that Lily is far more violence-prone than her husband and both have fundamentally different views on how to treat the visiting Mr. Deisinger or how to respond to Cameron standing over a downed Rick, she still clearly loves her husband and grandson, and is in tears when Sofus nearly dies.
  • Fantastic Light Source: Mike has Jakeem summon Thunderbolt so they can use his glowing pink body as a flashlight.
  • Frame-Up: As Beth notes that whoever's responsible for the Sinister Surveillance (possibly the Ultra Humanite going by the end of the episode) has been bouncing the signal to different parts of the United States to send Sylvester on a wild goose chase, it's strongly implied that the latest location marker, the Mahkent residence, was also part of their plan to frame the Mahkent grandparents as the ones responsible. The team still takes the bait, hook line and sinker, but it ends up being somewhat for the better as Lily was clearly planning to harm Courtney at the moment they burst in.
  • Hollywood Heart Attack: Sofus suffers one due to the strain of fighting Beth and Artemis as well as the general mental/emotional stress of seeing Cameron giving in to his rage, the very thing that Sofus says ultimately cost Jordan his own life. Thankfully, Dr. Chapel instructs Beth on how to use her costume as a defibrillator and she's able to save his life just in time.
  • I Warned You: Rick declares this preemptively when Courtney plans to tell Cameron about his father and the JSA. He says it again when he busts in just as Lily confronts Courtney, now believing their family has been spying on the JSA.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Courtney finds out about Yolanda's eviction from her home.
    • Cameron learns the Justice Society's identities and that they're in some way responsible for Jordan's death, even though the extent of that is not as cut and dry as Lily makes it out to be.
  • Magical Defibrillator: The Mid-Nite costume's gloves can function as one when activated. A couple shocks revive Sofus after he flatlines.
  • Musicalis Interruptus: Ripped City's background music suddenly cuts out when Barb calls Paula a friend, showing what an impact it has on Paula.
  • Offhand Backhand: Sofus ices up the floor behind him just as Beth comes running in, anticipating her arrival without even having to turn around.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The Dr. Mid-Nite costume has a combat mode that causes the goggles to glow red when activated.
  • The Reveal: Pat and Mike's mom, Maggie Shaw, weren't together long and Pat didn't find out about Mike until after they split up. They shared custody for a while, but Maggie was an addict, to the point that she abandoned Mike at a shelter. After she was arrested for possession, Pat got sole custody without a fight from her.
  • Shout-Out: The Thunderbolt describes the barn as having a Biff Tannen level of manure.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Cameron's experience with his cryo powers have been limited to just making ice sculptures up to this point, but he proves able to fight Rick to a standstill through nothing but pure rage.
  • Wham Shot: At the end, Mike and Jakeem have a run-in with the Ultra Humanite.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Courtney gets this again from Rick about wanting to tell Cameron the truth about her being Stargirl, as well as Jordan's true nature, since it risks not just herself but the whole group.
  • Willfully Weak: Unlike Cameron, who is untrained, and Lily, who goes in for the kill, Sofus limits his attacks to warning shots meant to drive Dr. Mid-Nite away.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Cameron is about to kill Rick, his grandfather stops him by saying that Jordan's hatred and anger is what killed him and Cameron should not follow his path.
