Recap / Stargate Atlantis S03 E19 "Vengeance"

Go To

Sheppard: If they wanted to create more Wraith, don't they usually get a male and female, you know, get a room?
McKay: It doesn't work that way with a Wraith, alright, at least we don't think it does. I'm not entirely sure as to the Wraith's reproductive methods.
Sheppard: I don't want to be around to watch that film.

Tropes:

  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: Upon coming across Michael's dart.
Ronon: You thinking what I'm thinking?
Sheppard: (nods) Fly it, pick you, Rodney and Teyla up and use the dart's DHD to dial the gate.
Ronon: I was thinking "blow it up", but your idea's better.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Sheppard and Ronan's argument about Michael and the Retrovirus. John is right that the Expedition had to try the plan (especially considering how out-manned and outgunned Atlantis is by the Wraith and needing every and all advantages). But Ronon is likewise correct that he had vocal misgivings about the Retrovirus from the beginning and those fears have been more than borne out between the events of "Michael", "Allies", "No Man's Land", and "Misbegotten". Now more people are dead again because of Michael and the Expedition still won't accept or admit responsibility for this mistake.
  • Everybody's Dead, Dave: The mission is to check up on the Taranians. They're all in that pile over there.
    • Dropped a Bridge on Him: The Taranians had been previously seen in "Inferno", where their homeworld was destroyed by a exploding Supervolcano. In retrospect, those people were probably the lucky ones...
  • Hypocritical Humor: "Oh, sarcasm! Yeah, nice."
  • I Warned You: Ronan angrily reminds Sheppard that he was against the Retrovirus plan from the beginning and warned it wouldn't end well.
  • Mysterious Past: Invoked by Teyla, who observes that ultimately they know nothing of Michael life's or history prior to the Expedition capturing him. Based on their observations (Michael's experiments, how fast he got them up and running), Rodney and Teyla both speculate he may have been a Wraith scientist (and possibly one of their best).
  • Never My Fault: Played with during Sheppard and Ronan's argument over taking Michael alive late in the episode. Sheppard is unwilling to outright concede the Michael situation was a failure and argues the Expedition had to try the Retrovirus Plan anyway. Ronan, by contrast, reminds Sheppard he was against the Plan from jump and angrily feels John (and Expedition) won't take responsibility and accept they unleashed a monster on Pegasus.
    • Averted with Weir in the penultimate scene, as she miserably accepts the Expedition is unwittingly responsible for getting the Taranians killed.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Rodney's analysis of Michael's captured data at the end of the episode reveals the Expedition's indirectly responsible for the deaths of the Taranians. Michael found out about the resettled refugees when his Hive hacked their systems during the events of "Allies" the previous year.
  • Sequel Episode: To Season Two's "Inferno" (following up on the fate of the resettled Taranians) and this Season's "Misbegotten" (Michael's storyline).
