Recap / Star Wars: The Bad Batch S1E6 "Decommissioned"

Go To

The Bad Batch are sent to retrieve a tactical droid from a decommissioning facility on Corellia, but run into some unexpected competition.

Tropes:

  • All There in the Manual: The Databank confirms that R7 is indeed the R7-A7, Ahsoka's astromech droid that escaped with her and Rex during Order 66 (though in a damaged, but salvageable state).
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Hunter and Rafa end up working together this way once the security droids start showing up. Though it's not so much because they trust one another as because there are so many droids it's the only way they can get anywhere.
  • The Bus Came Back: Rafa and Trace return, now part of the fledgling Rebel Alliance.
  • Call-Back:
  • Call-Forward: In the Star Wars Rebels episode "The Lost Commanders", Ahsoka gave the Ghost crew a tactical droid's head for intel on the whereabouts of Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor.note
  • The Cavalry: Wrecker, after regaining his bearings, shows up to clear out the initial wave of police droids before he's forced into cover. A more effective cavalry ends up being the half-assembled Separatist battle droids who provide the firepower they need to make their getaway.
  • Character Development: When introduced back in The Clone Wars, Rafa and Trace were mostly looking out for themselves. In this episode, they've joined what will be the Rebel Alliance and their actions are in the service of the broader cause. Seems like Ahsoka's actions rubbed off on them.
  • Conscience Makes You Go Back: Trace has a chance to flee with the tactical droid head, but goes back when she sees Omega pinned beneath droid parts and about to be dumped into a smelter.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Batch's battle with the factory police droids swings in their favor once they reactivate the Separatist droids and sic them on the security droids.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: The Bad Batch and the Martez sisters meet each other by fighting over the tactical droid. They end up working together against the security droids and Tech gives the sisters a data rod full of intel from the tac droid. They part ways as, if not actually friends, then at least non-enemies.
  • Got Volunteered: Cid more or less forces the Bad Batch to work for her. It's not like they have many other options, after all, since they lack credits and are wanted clones.
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: Omega gets pinned to a conveyor belt leading to a smelter and calls to Hunter for help. Trace helps Hunter save her.
  • Hero of Another Story: Rafa and Trace are off on their own adventures in the newly Imperial-reigned galaxy.
  • Hidden Depths: Cid proves a crack shot with a Zygerrian bow, hitting three bullseyes in rapid succession.
  • Mysterious Backer: The Bad Batch don't know who hired them through Cid to recover the tactical droid. And at the end, Rafa and Trace report to a mysterious cloaked figure via hologram.
  • Never My Fault: Rafa gets into a Gun Struggle with Omega, causing a stray shot to puncture one of the smelters and release superheated steam, leading to a full lockdown and droid deployment. She then blames Omega for causing it.
  • One Degree of Separation: Unknown to either party, the Martez sisters were friends with Ahsoka while the Bad Batch were friends with Rex — depending on which of those two were responsible for loaning R7 to the sisters, it's possible Rafa and Trace could've helped the Bad Batch find Rex.
  • Percussive Maintenance: Yet another head injury briefly causes Wrecker's inhibitor chip to start activating, though he's barely conscious for most of it and shakes it off when Omega calls him.
  • Pet the Dog: Hunter gives Rafa the data rod containing the tactical droid's database, believing she'll do good with it.
  • Replacement Mooks: New police droids are the main guards at the reforging factory and their bodies seemed to be an updated version of BX-Commando Droids, the only main differences being that they don't speak in Basic and also are less acrobatic in their movement. This makes it ironic since the main threat they face after nearly catching the Martez sisters and the Bad Batch are Separatist Battle Droids.
  • The Reveal: The headaches that have been troubling Wrecker are revealed to be his inhibitor chip acting up.
  • Series Continuity Error: When the battle droids get reprogrammed to help the Bad Batch and the Martez sisters, Echo comments that he can't believe battle droids are being helpful for once. Apparently, he doesn't remember that this also happened on Lola Sayu.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: Trace and Tech reprogram the tactical droid head to turn the Separatist droids against the local police droids, the former being far better combatants even in their half-disassembled state.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Omega may be an Instant Expert when it comes to shooting, but she struggles with the Zygerian Bow because she isn't really strong enough to hold it steady after pulling it back.
    • Holding a drawn bow taut is hard work, quickly impacting the user's strength and accuracy. When Cid displays her shooting ability, she draws and fires extremely rapidly; Omega only starts getting the hang of the bow once she does the same.
    • Even in their half-functioning state, the Separatist Droid Army units are more than a match for the factory security droids, since they were specifically built for combat while the police droids were designed to keep the peace.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
    • Omega starts becoming a fair shot with her energy bow in the heat of battle.
    • Rafa and Trace appear to have joined the nascent Rebellion and are more capable than they were a few weeks earlier when working alongside Ahsoka.
  • The Unreveal: Rafa and Trace are working for someone higher up in the Rebel Alliance, but their hologram is mostly offscreen and little can be discerned from it.
  • Wham Line: After getting hit in the head once again, Wrecker starts to mutter "Good soldiers..."; he doesn't actually finish the sentence, and snaps out of it when he hears Omega calling him, but it's a sign that his chip is starting to activate.
  • Who's on First?: When Rafa ignores Trace, then says the exact same thing she just said, an annoyed Trace asks Omega if there is an echo.
    Echo: Yes.
    Trace: What?
    Echo: I'm Echo.
    Trace: Really?
