Recap / Star Wars Resistance S2E14 "The Mutiny"

Go To

Kragan buys a secret weapon to capture the Colossus and take over. When Synara discovers this plan, she tries to warn Kaz and crew, but it may be too late.

Tropes:

  • A Dog Named "Dog": The lone old B1 Battle Droid that came in the package is just...B1.
  • Anti-Mutiny: Neeku knew Kragan was up to no good, so he programmed the droids to obey B1, and the droids end up mutinying against the mutineers. Likewise, Synara is disgusted with her former fellows and chooses to join the crew of the Colossus permanently... although she does argue to get the pirates let go with minimal supplies and no hyperdrive.
  • A-Team Firing: Kaz's complete inability to hit a moving target is on full display here. It takes him about twenty shots to hit the Trandoshan pirate from maybe twenty feet away, with said pirate taunting Kaz as he dodges each shot in turn.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Neeku mentions that Niktos can't blush, as they lack pigments for any colors except green.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Captain Doza tells Synara that his strictness towards the pirates, and intense surveillance of them, is justified to ensure that they don't cause any trouble. Synara argues that he's being too oppressive, and only increasing the chances that they will act out against him. They both turn out to be correct; Kragan has decided he's had enough of Doza's rules and attempts a mutiny, but Doza's surveillance enables him to see it coming and send Neeku to sabotage Kragan's plans.
  • Break Out the Museum Piece: Kragan acquires Clone Wars-Era Battle Droids to take over the Colossus, and having been obsolete for so long, the years have not been kind to them.
  • Call-Back:
    • Ithano sells off a bunch of Super Battle Droids to Kragan, who is impressed that he managed to find such a large cache somewhere.
    • Back in "The Doza Dilemma", Synara claimed that she learned how to shoot from hunting with her father on Vanqor. Now we know that Kragan was the closest thing she had to a father figure.
  • Continuity Nod: When Kaz says that he has faith that Neeku won't make bad decisions, Synara counters with the time he brought Bibo aboard.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: After Neeku finishes repairing the Super Battle Droids, he's pulled away before he can finish touching up the B1. Later, B1 rescues him, Kaz, and Synara from the storage unit they're locked in, and Neeku finishes reprogramming him so that the Super Battle Droids will listen to him.
  • Compliment Backfire: At the end, Neeku credits his spy skills to Kaz, from whom he has learned that the best way to look inconspicuous is Obfuscating Stupidity, including being clumsy, naive, inept, and so on. Kaz begs him to stop.
  • Easily Forgiven: Synara, despite having been associated with the Warbird Gang for so long (including spying on them and helping to kidnap Torra), is forgiven and allowed to stay on the Colossus by Captain Doza, knowing that the woman she was then isn't the woman she is today.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Kragan as he's being evicted from The Colossus gives this to Synara for turning on him after he took her in and treated her like a daughter all those years.
  • The Exile: Synara suggests to Doza that instead of imprisoning the pirates in the brig where they'll just waste manpower watching them and other resources taking care of them, they exile them on the Galleon without their weapons and their hyperdrive, which he takes up.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The Super Battle Droids turn against Kragan and his pirates after B1 is made their commander and orders them to, and end up as a part of the Colossus's security force. Also applies to Synara as she officially defects from the Warbirds and aids the Colossus to foil the mutiny.
  • Honor Before Reason: Before having him and the others space-walk, Kragan suggests he might offer Doza mercy if he calls him captain, which Doza refuses to ever do.
  • Hypocrite: Kragan, after finding out the droids are in poor operational shape, calls Sidon Ithano out for lying and deceiving him, but that's exactly what Kragan does frequently.
  • Irony: Kaz and Synara lampshade the irony in how they used to keep secrets from people and now they're the ones being left in the dark.
  • Like a Son to Me: Kragan reveals that he took a young and orphaned Synara off the streets of Vanqor and raised her as if she were his own daughter. Although he may be exaggerating that, given the circumstances. Valik may also apply, as Synara mentions that they've known each other since they were kids.
  • The Mutiny: It's in the title. Kragan decides to mutiny against Captain Doza because he's sick of his rules, and acquires Clone Wars-Era super battle droids.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Kragan attempting to mutiny against Captain Doza with B2 battle droids and getting Neeku to repair them wasn't a total loss. It did earn the Colossus more droids for their security forces.
  • No-Sell: Kaz tries punching Drell in the face, which only gets him an indignant "Hey!".
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Neeku acts clueless and naive to the pirates so he's able to reprogram the battle droids without suspicion.
  • The Reveal: Synara's past. She was an orphan on Vanqor until she was found and raised by Kragan.
  • Role Reprise: Matthew Wood once again voices the Battle Droids.
  • Stealth Insult: When Kaz's punch to Drell's face is a No-Sell, Neeku instead knocks him out with a wrench to the head. Neeku comments that his head is very thick, which is also a way of calling someone stubborn or stupid, something Neeku may or may not be aware of.
  • Tempting Fate: Kragan makes up an alibi that the droids he acquired are additional security droids. That ends up coming true because Neeku programmed B1 to be their commander and they end up double-crossing the mutineers.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Kragan's mutiny was the final straw for Captain Doza, and his reaction after getting the upper hand was to lock them up and throw away the key. However, Synara convinces him to evict the pirates without their weapons and hyperdrive instead. Captain Doza warns them that if they are seen again, they will pay for their treachery with their lives.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: Kragan makes it clear that once he's captain of the Colossus, he will rule over the residents with an iron fist.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Upon seeing Super Battle Droids invading the halls of the station, Al (the old man) takes one glance and nonchalantly waves Aunt Z over for another refill without moving from his seat.
  • Villain Respect: Kragan comments to one of his men that he likes Neeku and wants to make him his chief engineer after he takes over the Colossus.
  • Walk the Plank: Star Wars variant. The pirates almost make Doza, Yeager, and 4D space-walk out of their hangar.
  • Wham Episode: Kragan and his pirates are officially evicted from the Colossus for attempted mutiny, but Synara is allowed to stay and the Colossus gains more droids for their security forces.
