Shortly after rescuing BB-8, Rey and her new droid buddy find themselves coming across a misadventure with what lurks in the wilderness of Jakku.

- Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Rey boops BB-8 on his front lens after rescuing him from the worm.
- Big Little Man: The nightwatcher worm only showed its eye stalk in The Force Awakens. When it emerges here, it's a giant worm with a very small eye stalk.
- Covered in Gunge: Downplayed as he's not completely soaked, but BB-8 nevertheless ends up with a fresh coat of worm ooze after spending a minute in its mouth.
- Non-Malicious Monster: The nightwatcher worm that eats BB-8 only wants food, and when Rey feeds it some of her junk it goes away without a fuss.
- Pet the Dog: Rey tosses the nightwatcher worm a piece of junk as a replacement after she's denied it BB-8.
