Recap / Star vs. the Forces of Evil S4 E12 "Kelly's World"

Go To

Marco pays a visit to Woolandia to visit Kelly, helping her cope over breaking up with Tad and bring back her overdue library book.

Tropes:

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Even beyond Tad and Kelly, Wooletts have an amazing physical variety for a single species. Some are less than a foot tall, some are larger than a house (and function as houses), their number of limbs is variable, and some are made of dozens of tiny Wooletts joining together.
  • The Bus Came Back: Tad appears in a phone call and is revealed to have survived Meteora's attack. Tad has taken steps to move on from his breakup with Kelly.
  • Call-Back: To The Ponyhead Show!
    • The episode begins with Marco visiting Kelly to make tortas ahogadas with her, like she invited him to do.
    • When he meets her at home, Kelly is watching wrestling, but doesn't enjoy it since Marco told her that it's fake.
  • Continuity Nod: Tad has taken Kelly's advice to "live in the woods" back in the season 3 finale and has become a nest for a family of birds. He keeps calling her, however, to sarcastically mock her by talking about how he is free of negative energy.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: In Woolandia, keeping a library book past due is punishable by Traumatic Haircut—which is considered a big deal, as you lose any protection from everyone else's punches. Unless you can beat the librarian at the fight.
  • The Faceless: We never see what any Woolett but Kelly looks like underneath all the hair.
  • I Am Not Weasel: The librarian assumes Marco is a mewman, not a human.
  • Luminescent Blush: Marco and Kelly blush three times each when it becomes clear they have feelings for each other.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: When the librarian fights Marco and Kelly, she is revealed to have four arms.
  • Planet of Hats: Wooletts aren't just a warrior race, their entire culture is based on fights, to the point that beatings are used as a form of currency. Turning down a fight is considered extremely rude, and their bodies are covered in hair to act as armor.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Marco and Kelly become "breakup buddies" to help one another get over their lingering crushes on Star and Tad respectively, which involves hand holding and kissing. Basically a G-rated version of Friends with Benefits.
  • Scary Librarian: The librarian, when challenged to a fight by Marco, whips out four arms with scissors- to cut Kelly's hair as punishment- and then switches to knives to stab Marco with.
  • Sapient House: Several Wooletts, including Kelly's mom, seem to be this (see Bizarre Alien Biology).
  • Shout-Out: Woolandia surely looks like something right out of Dr. Seuss's books.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Though Tad has finally left Kelly's hair, he did not leave her life. He sends her several messages sarcastically telling he's free from negative energy and that he's moved on from their relationship. Though Marco advises her to block him, she ultimately doesn't do so.
  • Weird Currency: Instead of money, Woolandia deals with punches for trade.
