We have the meats.
Star is really enjoying her life with the Diazes especially because Mr. and Mrs. Diaz are always celebrating her days on Earth. But when previous foreign exchange student from Europe, Gustav, stops by, Star finds herself pushed to the side. Star thinks there's something off about this Scandinavian boy, but is she just jealous, or does Gustav have a secret of his own?

After finding objects in Gustav's bag that are suspicious, to say the least—an English to Scandinavian dictionary, and a foreigner's guide to speaking his native tongue, to name some—Star starts spying and investigating Gustav. She witnesses some strange activities, such as: borrowing the Diaz family's axe; making a suspicious, mysterious phone call late at night; and measuring Mr. and Mrs. Diaz while they sleep.

All the while, Gustav makes the Diazes his famous meatballs, treating them to an endless supply of delicious food.

When Marco discovers that Star's covered one of the walls of her room in photos, notes, and articles connected by string, he says that Star's just being crazy and that there is nothing to worry about from Gustav. In fact, he's taking the Diazes to a camping trip to Isolation Point—"Where no one can hear you scream... in happiness!"

Star has an epiphany and realizes that Gustav is planning to kill and eat the Diazes. She tries to warn them, but ends up piggybacking on their car, and sending them down a wrong way while she goes off to confront Gustav at the camp site.

An epic chase ensues, Star using her magic to summon all manner of minions to try and capture Gustav, until finally, she has him cornered on the ground with nowhere left to run. Well and truly captured, Gustav tearfully admits to his crime: he's not really a foreign exchange student.

Real name Charlie Booth, Gustav has actually just been going about posing as a foreign exchange student to hone his skills as a chef, with the ultimate goal of opening a restaurant back in his actual hometown, Bakersfieldville. He begs Star not to reveal his secret, and when the Diazes arrive, keeps quiet.

Gustav asks Star if there is anything he can do for her. Cut to Star waving goodbye as Gustav leaves the Diaz household for good.

Later, in the epilogue, Gustav is seen posing as a French exchange student for a different family.

Tropes

  • Fantasy Helmet Enforcement: Star hitches a ride on the roof of the Diaz's car to chase after them on their way to a camping trip, and magically produces a rainbow to buckle herself up.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Among the pictures of all the exchange students that lived in the Diaz Residence, there is a llama and a robot. Also, Star's eyes seem to be locked on a blonde girl kissing Marco.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Star is suspicious of Gustav because she's jealous that he gets attention.
  • I Don't Like the Sound of That Place: "Isolation Point" sounds like a fantastic place to have a picnic, don't you think?
  • Jerkass Ball: Star really comes off as rather selfish in this episode. Granted, she does have some reason to be suspicious of Gustav after the first meeting and she's sorta right, but her initial reaction to him seems rather hostile. Somewhat justified, as she is a princess and the only child of her parents.
  • Mook Horror Show: After Star catches up to Gustav, she chases him through the forest, blasting at him all the way.
  • Norse by Norsewest: Gustav claims to come from "the country of Scandinavia" (despite the fact that Scandinavia is not one nation but a region encompassing several nations), where "Vikings teach gym class, and everyone has a pet penguin (Even if you don't like penguins!)". Justified in that he's not from anywhere in Scandinavia and just using that as a cover to test recipes.
  • Parodies for Dummies: One of Star's reasons to believe Gustav isn't a real Scandinavian is the fact he has a book titled "Scandinavian for Doofuses".
  • Riddle for the Ages: Why was Gustav measuring Mr. and Mrs. Diaz while they slept?
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Star thinks that Gustav is not who he claims to be. She's proven right but not in the way she imagined: Star thought that Gustav is one of Ludo's minions in disguise but he's actually just an american Charlie Booth from Bakersfieldville who's just posing as a foreign exchange student to hone his skills as a chef.
  • Secret Handshake: Marco and Gustav share one that is a good 15 seconds long.
  • String Theory: Star's intense suspicions of Gustav results in her creating one of these the size of a wall.
  • The Unreveal: Gustav gives an explanation for all his strange behavior... except for his measuring Mr. and Mrs. Diaz while they were sleeping.
