Recap / Squirrel Boy Short 6 Bedside Matters

Go To

Air date: April 10, 2008

Mr. Johnson is hung up in bed and must get as much sleep as he can, but his nurse, who turns out to be Rodney, won't leave him alone.

Note: This is the last of the Squirrel Boy shorts, and as such the last entry to date of the Squirrel Boy franchise.

This short contains examples of:

  • Ass Shove: Rodney shoves a meat thermometer up Mr. J's ass off-screen, in order to "take his temperature".
  • Bait-and-Switch: All of Rodney's treatments use some sort of subverted humor.
    • First, Rodney gives a spoon full of "medicine" to Mr. J, who at first takes kindly to it only to exhibit an extremely terrified response upon identifying it as hot sauce.
    • Then, he gives him a sponge bath.
Rodney: How do you like the new shampoo? It's honey scented.
Mr. J: (tastes it) That's because it is honey.
    • Rodney then rubs some "lotion" on Mr. J's face.
Mr. J: Rodney, I don't want any-... Hey, that actually feels nice. What is it?
      Rodney: Horseradish.
      Mr. J: Horseradish?! (swells up)
    • The last treatment involves taking Mr. J's temperature.
Mr. J: That's a meat thermometer. You ain't sticking that in my mouth!
—->Rodney: (laughs) Don't worry, Mr. J. This isn't going anywhere near your mouth.
  • Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce: Rodney mistakes some extremely spicy hot sauce as medicine and feeds it to Mr. J, provoking a horrified reaction from him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Mr. J, as usual, but up to eleven and beyond. Although, it's done in a Played for Laughs kind of way.
  • The Chew Toy: Mr. J plays this role like he never has before. He's on the receiving end of humorous mistreatments. Although, seeing him be this injured will most likely get a sympathetic reaction from you rather than a laugh.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Mr. J suffers having every bone in his body broken and running a fever simultaneously, all while on the receiving end of mistreatment by Rodney.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Had Mrs. J not mixed up the treatment list with the grocery list, the conflict could have been avoided.
  • Dr. Jerk: Although unintentionally, Rodney plays this role to Mr. J full stop.
  • Idiot Ball: Mrs. J mixes up her grocery list with the treatment list.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Sure, Rodney inflicts pain on Mr. J as usual, but he still tried to stick to the doctor's orders. It's worth noting that the treatment would have been done properly had Mrs. J not gave Rodney the wrong paper.
  • Joke of the Butt: Rodney shoves a meat thermometer up Mr. J's ass off-screen at the end.
  • Kindness Ball / Took a Level in Kindness: Downplayed as he didn't stop and leave Mr. J alone when he told him to, but Rodney is considerably less assholish here, as he tries to take care of Mr. J while he's sick and injured (albeit with bad results).
  • Out-of-Character Moment: The whole short is one for Rodney. (See above)
  • Plot Allergy: Mr. J receives an allergic reaction to horseradish.
