Tropes in this episode include:

  • Accidental Hero: Loid takes out Snoops and the Assassin Leader when he chucks the last bomb Snoops planted overboard, and its explosion capsizes their dingy resulting in them being surrounded by sharks, and ensuring they won't cause any more trouble down the line.
  • Accidental Murder: The gunman wearing a tanktop ends up shooting his comrade after tripping over Yor's weapon which Anya threw.
  • Bathos: The quiet but peaceful ending of the new day features Anya almost falling from her bunk bed.
  • Bathroom Search Excuse: Anya tries to excuse her absence to the enraged caregiver by saying that she needed to use the bathroom. And when she tries to escape her while crying out "bombs", the caregiver believes she's talking about the Number Two.
  • Blatant Lies: When a group of shiphand (one of them being Twilight in disguise) reviews the bomb hidden inside the clock in Deck 8, one of them announced that they were "just servicing the clock."
  • Brick Joke: On their first day at their new cabin, Loid warns Anya about not falling off from the top of their bunk bed. The ending has a sleepy Anya falling off only to be saved by her dad.
  • Call-Back: Earlier on the cruise, Twilight realizes there are some SSS agents on the Lorelei. These agents play a relatively important part of the story.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Anya cries out Rising Hope as she launches her mother's knife to the roof.
  • Cutting the Knot: Realizing that he won't have enough time to disarm the clock bomb, Loid rips it off, runs to the outside, and chucks it out into the sea.
  • Dead Drop: The Gretchers' escape plan is a form of this: they are put on a safety raft and lowered on the sea at a point on the Lorelei's route, when another ship will pick them up to the next leg.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Anya's throwing Yor's dagger to the upper deck starts one: two assassins attempt to eliminate the Gretchers while Yor is preoccupied, one of them slips on the dagger and falls, hitting his head on a pipe and knocking himself out. He involuntarily fires his gun and hits his partner in the leg, which causes him to smash into the wall and also knock himself out, on top of said dagger planting itself on his butt. The gunshots from the commotion catch Yor's attention, allowing her to retrieve her dagger.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: The crewmates applaud Loid for successfully disarming the bomb. But Loid's stoic reaction causes them to stop as he realizes that one single bomb wouldn't be enough to take down the Lorelei.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Yor succeeds in protecting the Gretchers and escorting them to the next leg of their destination. For her success, the Director permits her to spend the next day with her family.
  • Evil Plan: Snoops explains to the Assassin Leader that blowing up the Lorelei using West-inspired bombs will inspire enough panic to reignite the war between the two states. He even brags that the black market would gain a significant boost in weapons sales because of the fighting.
  • Incredibly Obvious Bomb: The time bombs planted around the ship are equipped with ticking clocks.
  • Just Desserts: Snoops and Four Eyes are knocked out of the boat and into shark-infested waters. The camera cuts to black just as the sharks reach the disgraceful killers. We never hear of them again.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Snoops tried to kill off everyone using explosives placed around the cruise. He meets his demise after Loid chucks the clock bomb at his escape raft.
  • Leave No Survivors: The final trump card of Snoops was to blow up the cruise ship with West-inspired bombs to kill everyone on board; from Garden, his hired killers to the innocent civilians.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: While walking through the main corridor, Four Eyes sniffs a secret bomb hidden in the grand clock that stands in the center. Anya picks up on his thoughts without him knowing and alerts one of the crew-hands who in turn informs Loid.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: As Yor is fighting the swordsman, two gunmen decide to ambush the Gretchers while she's busy and get away as soon as possible. The Uzi-wielding one that fractured his skull when he slipped on Yor's dagger has a resemblance to Bruce Willis when he portrayed JohnMcClane.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: Snoops' true plan was to blow up the cruise ship regardless if the assassins were successful in killing the Gretchers or not. He even tries to kill Four Eyes who jumped onto his raft to save himself from the upcoming explosion.
  • Previously on…: The episode starts with a recap involving Yor's assassin career and her involvement in the Cruise Adventure Arc.
  • Reading Lips: Loid found out the bomb plot that way—he noticed the SSS agents he identified previously are getting uneasy, so he invokes this to get what they're talking—they are asking for reinforcements due to explosives being found on the Lorelei.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Yor's final confrontation with the Master Swordsman. They rush at each other with drawn weapons and after a flash of action, both stand still for a moment. Then the swordsman sinks to the ground dead.
  • Skewed Priorities: When Twilight rips off the clock to throw it and its about-to-explode bomb into the ocean, a crewmate is more concerned about him destroying an antique.
  • Slow-Motion Pass-By: When Anya passes Four Eyes in the corridor, the scene goes into slow motion as she hears his thoughts about planning to kill the "target".
  • Title Drop: The title "The Hands that Connect to the Future" is a reference to a line during the scene before the Gretchers are lowered to the sea for the next leg of their escape route. Olka convinces Yor to let little Gram touch her hands, despite Yor's hands still grimy from the fighting. Olka explains that, to Gram, Yor's hands are "the hands that connect to the future" since they saved Gram's life.
  • We Need a Distraction: After hearing her father learn about a potential bomb on the ship and needing to leave her to find it, Anya insists that she still wants to play and points to the conveniently placed "Kids Center" where she can stay for the time being. Loid accepts this and sends her there which gives Anya the golden opportunity to look for her mom to help her.
