Dan meets Abby (Jayne Brook) at a bar, and to his surprise, she turns out to be a psychiatrist interested in treating him. Jeremy accidentally shuts down all the computers at the studio.
This episode contains examples of:
- Big Red Button: Played straight and then subverted. All the computers, followed by the power, go off because Jeremy presses one of these, but then it turns out it's because the board had been re-wired that morning and no one told him.
- Book Ends: The show rehearsal begins and ends with Casey's chair sinking.
- Foreshadowing: Dan's problems with his family will come up again in future episodes.
- Freudian Slip: When Abby asks Dan about his father, Dan responds, "She likes me just fine." Naturally, Abby picks up on that right away.
- Hypocritical Humor:Dana: Hey, I said I was sorry. It was heartfelt. I made an apology.Casey: No you didn't.Dana: Like I need to apologize with you people.
- Premature Encapsulation: Kafelnikov, a tennis player, doesn't come up at all in this episode, but does in the next episode.
- Shout-Out:
- Casey calls Dan McMurphy when Dan denies he needs therapy.
- Also, when she sees Casey working on his script by candlelight, Dana calls him, "Bob Cratchit."
- Tempting Fate: Jeremy says throughout the Y2K computer test that there's nothing to fear and nothing will go wrong.
