  • Exiled to the Couch: In the House, Neil Kinnock reveals that he and Glenys sleep in separate beds.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The newspaper with the Russian nuke joke headline has a smaller article that reads, "Sure, Keep the Job, But Don't Expect to Get Wages Too."
  • New Year Has Come: Originally airing on 6th January 1985, the show opens with Arthur Scargill protesting against the closure of the old year while it's still viable.
  • Protest Song: "War is Naughty" by Boy George, which is an attempt to cash in on the popularity of anti-war songs by stringing some insubstantial platitudes together and calling it a day.
  • Stealth Pun: When Princess Diana announces that she's decided to call the new royal baby Henry, since that's what all her friends her call, Prince Charles' response is, "Hooray, Henry it is then." The Queen then proceeds to christen him Henry in the same manner she would a ship with a bottle of champagne.
  • The Stinger: After the credits, we see a smoking beagle wheezing that his New Year's Resolution has gone out the window.
  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: Played With. The Windsors have some slighty out-there suggestions for names for the royal baby, like "Bing", "Pecker" or "Theakston's Old Peculiar."
