Dr. Mariah Crawford has developed a cure for Spidey's disease, but she's reluctant to give an untested serum to Spider-Man that may result in permanent loss of his powers or worse. But after an angry outburst from Spider-Man, she hands it over. Peter, at the ESU lab, is secretly observed by Michael Morbius, who then swipes the infected blood sample after Peter leaves for the night.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Big "NO!": Peter's response at the end of the episode when, rather than curing him, Dr. Crawford's serum only accelerates his mutation, causing him to sprout four more arms.
  • Body Horror: Michael Morbius. After getting bitten by a vampire bat that fed on some of Parker's irradiated blood turned him into a "living vampire" that needed plasma to live. He had chalk-white skin, an upturned bat nose, fangs, pointed ears... and suckers on his hands which he used to feed!
  • My God, What Have I Done?: In a fit of rage and desperation, Spider-Man trashes Dr. Crawford's lab, demanding she give him the cure she's still working on. He has this reaction when Crawford calls him out, pointing out that for all his claims of not wanting to become a monster, he's certainly acting like one.
Crawford: Look at yourself! You're acting like the monster you don't want to become!
    Spider-Man: You're right... What am I doing?
  • Painful Transformation: Spider-Man's mutation disease has begun to flare up, manifesting as intense pain in his sides. At the end of the episode, it's revealed to be because he's growing four extra arms.
  • Unfinished, Untested, Used Anyway: Dr. Crawford has worked out a cure for Spider-Man's disease that seems to work, but initially wants to wait and fully test it to avoid any side-effects, warning it may depower Spidey or even kill him. Spidey, having been warned by Dr. Connors that he could mutate into a monster "any day now", refuses to wait and demands she hand it over, losing his cool and trashing her lab until she gives in and hands the serum over. Sadly, Crawford's warnings prove right at the end of the episode; Peter takes the serum, but rather than cure him, all it does is accelerate the mutation's progress, causing him to sprout four extra arms.
