Recap / Spider Man 1967 Where Crawls The Lizard Electro The Human Lightning Bolt

Go To

Spider-Man travels to Florida to discover the mystery behind the mysterious Lizard Man roaming the Everglades.

"Where Crawls the Lizard" provides examples of:

  • Abled in the Adaptation: In the comics, Dr. Connors was an amputee and was researching reptiles to find a way to regrow his lost arm. Here, Dr. Conner still has both of his arms and was turned into the Lizard while trying to find a cure for swamp fever.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Dr. Connors has his last name changed to Conner, and his supervillain identity as "the Lizard" is now referred to as "the Lizard Man".
  • Lizard Folk: Dr. Connor accidentally transforms himself into a bipedal lizard creature during one of his experiments and begins terrorizing the Florida Everglades.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: The Lizard Man has a pair of alligators at his command and orders them to attack Spider-Man when he manages to locate his hide-out.
  • Professor Guinea Pig: Dr. Conner decides to try out his cure for swamp fever on himself, but this just ends up turning him into the Lizard Man.
  • Some Nutty Publicity Stunt: Jameson sends Peter down to Florida to snap some pictures of the Lizard Man, but dismisses them once he comes back. He mentions how a film studio was shooting a movie about giant lizards in the area and he concludes that the entire incident was just a publicity stunt.
  • Swiss-Army Superpower: Spider-Man uses his webbing to create a pair of water skies and a giant fan to help him travel through the Everglades.
  • Was Once a Man: The Lizard Man turns out to be local herpetologist Curt Conner.

Spider-Man is on the run from the police after J. Jonah Jameson accuses him of a robbery committed by the shocking supervillain Electro.

"Electro, the Human Lightning Bolt" provides examples of:

  • Cassandra Truth: Peter provides pictures proving Electro was the one who robbed Jameson, but his hatred of Spider-Man causes him to dismiss them as fakes.
  • Clear My Name: Spider-Man catches Electro robbing Jameson's house, but he's left behind to take the fall once the police show up. Jameson puts out a cash reward for his capture, and Spider-Man has to avoid being shot at by the cops as he tracks down Electro.
  • Electric Slide: Electro slides on top of power lines in order to make quick getaways.
  • Hall of Mirrors: Spider-Man's final confrontation with Electro takes place in a hall of mirrors, with Electro taking care to zap each mirror until he finds the real Spider-Man.
  • It Was a Dark and Stormy Night: Rather fittingly, the episode begins with Spider-Man patrolling the city during a thunderstorm, only to notice a bolt of lightning coming up from Jameson's house.
  • Mistaken for Clown: When Peter shows Jameson pictures of Electro robbing his house, he assumes Peter merely spliced a picture of a clown into shots of his room.
  • Tracking Device: Peter plants a Spider-Tracer on Electro, hoping to track him down after their fight. Electro eventually discovers the tracer and leaves it at the jewelry store he just robbed in order to frame Spider-Man once he arrives.
