Recap / South Park S9 E3 "Wing"

Go To

Original air date: 3/23/2005

Tolkien becomes a singer while the boys try to run a talent agency and represent the City Wok owner's wife.

Tropes:

  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: The Chinese mafia forces Mr. Kim to reveal where Wing is by dumping his food trays over the counter. He decides to tell the truth before they dump the shrimp tray.
  • Graceful Loser: Cartman rather surprisngly is quite affable to Sylvester Stallone after Wing loses The Contender.
  • Jerkass Realization: Both the Super Awesome Talent Agency (except Cartman) and the Chinese mafia realize that they shouldn't treat talented people like objects used to make money, and both businesses end their operations as a result.
  • Karma Houdini: The Chinese mafia will likely get away for their years of criminal activity (and for killing Kenny).
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After ditching the Boys for another agency, the next time the Boys encountered Tolkien, they see him waiting tables after finding out the agency doesn't actually do anything for him and is now trying to get enough money to get back home.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Stan, realizing that being a talent agent is no different than being in the Triads (though unaware of them being a mob, thinking they're a rival talent agency), manages to convince them that both sides aren't much different from each other in owning Wing, allowing them to put aside their differences.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: The boys are under the impression that the Chinese mafia is also a talent agency, even at the end of the episode, and Stan's speech about treating talent like humans convinces the mafia to end their human smuggling ring.
  • Only in It for the Money: The Boys started a talent agency and represented Tolkien just so they could get 10% of his earnings after he won a $200 singing competition.
  • Right on Queue: The line up for American Idol auditions spans the length an entire film studio. One person even remarks to the boys that he's been in the line for 17 days.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Kenny is killed during a shootout with the Triads.
