Original air date: 4/16/2003

Cartman creates a hand-puppet version of Jennifer Lopez for a Latino appreciation school presentation, which becomes a major celebrity, causes Ben Affleck to fall for the hand puppet, and incurs the wrath of the real J-Lo.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: The Latino judges at the cultural diversity event not only find Cartman's Jennifer Lopez puppet to be funny, but enough so that it lands him first prize, much to the dismay of Kyle.
  • Ax-Crazy: The real Jennifer Lopez loses it after being replaced by a hand puppet and her boyfriend leaves her for said hand puppet. She attacks Cartman with a baseball bat and breaks his hand.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: The real Jennifer Lopez throws her dog out of her limo's window for barking. Ben Affleck and the chauffer are unfazed by this.
  • Burger Fool: After losing her career, her boyfriend, and finally getting arrested for attempting to murder Cartman, Jennifer Lopez is forced to work at a fast food place called La Taco.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Cartman didn't think this crazy idea would blow up in his face.
  • Hand Puppet Mockery: Cartman becomes the fake Jennifer Lopez via a face drawn on his hand and a fake wig over it. To Kyle's chagrin, he not only charms the school with his portrayal, but actually makes human Ben Affleck fall in love with "her" over the human equivalent.
  • Hidden Depths: Cartman, assuming the whole thing was just him messing with Kyle, is a pretty good ventriloquist.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Puppet!J-Lo, or rather Mitch Conner, is this is a whole. Whether it is just Cartman screwing around or a separate sentient entity is never explained. Cartman says at the end of the episode that he was making everything up, but a lot of Mind Screw is involved in this as well, so...
  • Meaningful Name: Puppet!J-Lo's real identity is a con man named Mitch Conner.
  • Mistaken Nationality: The managers of J. Lo's record company call her a Mexican at one point. She corrects them, pointing out she's Puerto Rican (who grew up in New York City).
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Kyle, Principal Victoria and Mr. Mackey have this reaction when they realize what Cartman is planning to do as part of his Latino Heritage presentation.
    • Puppet!J-Lo eventually causing all sorts of problems for Cartman, especially when Ben Affleck plans on marrying her.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is possibly a pun on Beavis And Buttheadnote .
  • The Reveal: Parodied. The J-Lo hand puppet that Cartman made was actually a con man named "Mitch Conner".
  • Rich Bitch: Jennifer Lopez is characterized as this. She even provides the page image!
  • Shout-Out: Cartman's "Jennifer Lopez" bit is basically just SeƱor Wences's schtick, specifically his hand puppet character Johnny, complete with the comically exaggerated falsetto accent and "S'aright?" "S'ariiight!" exchange.
  • Take That!: The episode is basically one long insult to Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, depicting the former as a Rich Bitch who completely loses her mind the minute she loses her spot in the limelight, and the latter as a dimwitted Trophy Husband who mistakes Cartman's hand for a real woman. Hell, even the title is a dig at the couple.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: "Miss Lopez" tends to say "I eat tacos y burritos" by way of introduction, and all of her songs are on the subject of tacos in particular.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Jennifer Lopez has no hang-ups about beating up Cartman and later trying to murder him.
  • Yandere: The real Jennifer Lopez does not take very well the fact that Ben Affleck is having an affair with her hand-puppet version and assaults Puppet!J-Lo and Cartman and then tries to kill them with a chainsaw later on.
