Kyle Hobart, a former SAMCRO member who was responsible for Opie's arrest and imprisonment, raises tension when he is invited to participate in Gemma's school fundraiser as a gesture of goodwill to his ex-wife and kids. Meanwhile, imprisoned SAMCRO member Otto Delaney arranges protection for Chucky Marstein, a former accountant for the Lin Triad, in exchange for SAMCRO receiving a hefty portion of the $416,000 Chucky skimmed from the triad.
- Asshole Victim: Kyle is a seemingly non-fatal example.
- Berserk Button: When the SAMCRO members (Jax and Opie first, the rest later on) see Kyle hasn't had his tattoo blacked out, they look absolutely livid.
- Death Glare: Every SAMCRO member shoots one towards Kyle when his tattoo is revealed.
- Dirty Coward: In 2003, Kyle was supposed to be Opie's getaway ride, but he panicked when he heard sirens, and left Opie behind to be arrested.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: We see during a club meeting Half-Sack sitting at the table, but as a prospect it would be unusually for him to even be in the room leave alone invited to sit at the table since he can't vote on club matters yet. Later prospects are almost never seen inside during church.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Even Gemma is unnerved by Kyle getting his tattoo forcibly removed by either fire or knife.
- Jax at least lets Kyle take a big swig of alcohol before getting his tattoo burned off. He later has trouble reading John's manuscript after taking part in such a terrible task.
- Half-Sack also becomes visibly disturbed watching the burning.
- Jerkass: Kyle, a tactless Deadpan Snarker to his wife, who he frequently cheated on during their marriage. He is also willing to pass up seeing his son's band play just to discuss a deal with SAMCRO, which itself is very questionable.
- Sadistic Choice: Clay gives Kyle the choice of either having his tattoo burned off with a torch or sliced off with a knife. He chooses the former.
- Stealing from the Till: The reason Chucky was imprisoned in the first place was because he was skimming from Lin.
- The Triads and the Tongs: This episode introduces the Lin Triad.
