Oliver and Chloe both end up in serious danger after assuming false identities. When Clark starts to make himself better known around the world, Lois suggests a new disguise for him.
Tropes present in the episode:
- Black Eyes of Evil: Desaad gets these at one point in the episode.
- Clark Kenting: A plot point of the episode is Clark figuring out a new disguise for himself now that he's trying to make himself better known all across the world. In the end, he decides that "Clark Kent" is the disguise and begins acting more clumsy and nerdy.
- Cool Shades: Part of Lois's idea for a new disguise for Clark, who complains he can't see with them on.
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: While holding Chloe captive, Desaad psychologically tortures her while holding her suspended in the air with her arms tied and she's in a revealing dress. Furthermore, he holds a knife and presses the dull side on her chest. It comes eerily similar to a sexual torture chamber, with Desaad himself coming across as wanting to torture or rape Chloe. His plan to have her give in so she'd be marked with the Omega symbol also comes across as branding as well as manipulating her into being a willing participant. And come several years later with Chloe's actress...
- Evil Brit: Desaad speaks with an English accent, and is the Villain of the Week.
- Incorruptible Pure Pureness:Desaad: [to Clark] When [Darkseid] last laid eyes upon you, you wore your sin openly. You're much more self-assured now. More love in your heart than when you faced Godfrey. Stronger than when you faced Granny, as well. Sadly incorruptible.
- Insult Backfire:Chloe: Go to Hell.Desaad: Don't worry; it'll be here soon enough.
- In the Hood: Lois's idea for a new costume for Clark is to attach a red hood to his jacket. Clark is not amused.Clark: [looking in the mirror at the updated outfit, completely deadpan] I feel like I can't believe that you did this to my jacket.
- Moment of Weakness: Oliver going berserk and whaling on Desaad after the latter falsely claimed to have killed Chloe is what allowed Desaad to brand him with the Omega symbol.
- Mythology Gag:
- The "improved" version of Clark's Blur costume resembles the one seen on the cover of Superman: Earth One.
- The Power of Love: Desaad observes that Clark has more love in his heart than he did before, making him incapable of being corrupted by Darkseid.
- Seven Deadly Sins: Desaad tempts Chloe with five of the seven, specifically Lust (a vision of Clark trying to seduce Chloe), Sloth (a vision of Oliver trying to persuade her to run away with him and leave their problems behind), Envy (a vision of Lois boasting of her successful life and career as a reporter), Wrath (Desaad tries to convince her to kill him), and Pride (a vision of Chloe herself boasting about how she's stronger than everyone else who fell victim to Desaad). Fortunately, Chloe resists him.
- Villain of the Week: Desaad, one of Darkseid's Prophets.
