After Clark is kidnapped and held in a kryptonite cage on Lionel's orders, Chloe takes Kara to the Fortress and begs Jor-El to restore Kara's memories and powers so she can rescue Clark.
Tropes present in the episode:
- All Up to You: Chloe, Lana, and Kara are forced to work to save Clark after he's captured by Pierce on Lionel's orders.
- Anguished Declaration of Love: Chloe declares she loves Clark while trying to convince Jor-El to restore Kara's memory and powers so she can save Clark.
- Calling the Old Man Out: Chloe, while beseeching Jor-El to restore Kara's powers and memories.Chloe: [to Jor-El] Clark's in trouble. Now, I know that your brother started all of this, but right now, the only way we can help your son is if you restore Kara's memory and powers. [...] Jor-El! Out of all the planets across the universe, you decided to send your only son to this one, to Earth! You trusted us to protect him! Now, please, Jor-El, I need you to trust me! I love your son! He's in danger and he needs our help!
- Chekhov's Gun: The little V logo Lex decorated his toy Roman soldiers' shields with, according to "Fracture", is revealed to be the Veritas logo.
- Cold-Blooded Torture: Pierce subjects a caged Clark to this by raising the levels of Kryptonite radiation.
- Could Have Avoided This: Had Lionel just been honest and told Clark the truth, he wouldn't have lost Clark's trust and destroyed there relationship.
- Didn't Think This Through: Giving the Obviously Evil Pierce the job of guarding Clark has to be the dumbest thing Lionel has ever done.
- Everyone Has Standards: Clark is an All-Loving Hero but Lionel having him kidnapped and unintentionally tortured is the final straw for Clark who declares him a lost cause and ends his friendship with him.
- Generation Xerox: Patricia Swann, the daughter of the late Dr. Swann, comes to Smallville, befriends Clark, gives him her father's journal, and offers to be there for him as he pursues his destiny. Unfortunately for her, she is killed on Lex's orders.
- I Did What I Had to Do: Lionel claims he put Clark in the kryptonite cage to protect him, when it was the fact that Patricia threatened to expose Lionel and he refused to give up Clark to her.
- Mundanger: Pierce is a normal human who captures and tortures a weakened Clark.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Once again, Lionel has done something he can't pin the blame on to someone else.
- Obviously Evil: Pierce, not even hiding his Fantastic Racism towards anything he views as non-human and torturing Clark against Lionel's orders.
- Pillar of Light: Kara is enveloped in one as Jor-El restores her memories and powers at Chloe's request.
- Villain of the Week: Pierce
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Patricia Swann is shot and killed on Lex's orders in the final act.
- Wham Episode: Clark ends his relationship with Lionel after he abuses his trust once again.
