Clark finds out that Kara is in Washington, D.C., searching for her missing crystal. Kara is captured and subjected to a Kryptonite-based procedure that causes her to relive a previous trip to Earth, where she followed Clark's Kryptonian mother, Lara, to the Kent Farm.


Tropes present in the episode:

  • Abusive Dad: Zor-El shows himself to be one when he uses a Crystal of El to erase Kara's memories of their visit to Earth after he catches her watching him trying to seduce Lara.
  • Badass Longcoat: Zor-El wears one as part of his attire while visiting Earth in a flashback set in 1986.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Clark arrives to save Kara from Agent Carter, only to be weakened by the Kryptonite. Moments later, Lionel arrives and shoots Carter dead.
  • Broken Pedestal: Zor-El becomes this to Kara after she learns that he did indeed try to kill his own brother and also tried to seduce Lara during their visit to Earth.
  • Cain and Abel: Revealed to be the case between Jor-El and Zor-El. Zor-El is confirmed to have attempted to kill Jor-El so he could have Lara all to himself.
  • Crystal Spires and Togas: Krypton is depicted this way in the flashback early in the episode. Krypton's buildings are crystalline while Zor-El, Kara, and later Lara are shown wearing dresses and cloaks.
  • Fanservice: Kara in a tight red dress and black high heels.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Zor-El uses a Crystal of El to erase Kara's memories of his attempt to seduce Lara during their visit to Earth.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: A flashback reveals that Zor-El attempted to murder Jor-El so he could have Lara all to himself.
  • Power Crystal: Zor-El's Crystal of El, which he uses to erase Kara's memories of her trip to Earth.
  • Remake Cameo: Helen Slater, who plays Lara, previously played the titular character in Supergirl (1984).
  • Show Some Leg: Kara dons a red dress and flirts with a government lab technician while trying to find her crystal.
  • Sibling Triangle: Jor-El and Zor-El had one, and it got ugly.
  • Villain of the Week: Agent Carter in the present, Zor-El in the flashback set in 1986 on the Kent Farm.
