Chloe loses a bet on a football game after Mikhail Mxyzptlk, a foreign exchange student, uses his magical powers to control all the players, including Clark.
Tropes present in the episode:
- Adaptational Attractiveness: In the comics, Mxy is a short, goofy-looking imp. Here, he's Tall, Dark, and Handsome.
- Adaptational Wimp: a rather drastic version. While Mikhail is certainly a serious threat, he's nowhere near the nigh omnipotent higher dimensional being he is from the comics and most other adaptations
- Compelling Voice: Mxyzptlk has to speak in order to use his powers, through his range is much longer than one would expect.
- Mind Control: Mxyzptlk's power.
- Mythology Gag: The search engine asks, "Did you mean kltpzyxm?" This question invokes the name spelled backward in the story. There is no indication that getting Mikhail to pronounce this word would send him to another dimension.
- Throwing the Fight: Mxyzptlk wants Clark to do this in next football game.
- Villain of the Week: Mikhail Mxyzptlk.
