Go To

Original title: "Penthouse at Lumang Bahay"

Aired: September 1, 2022

Aki and her grandma return to her childhood town, so isolated from civilization that there is no electricity and people still ride on horseback. When they arrive at their house, they are surprised to the front door and windows open. They think nothing of it, and Aki's grandma decides to leave Aki alone to cook dinner. Suddenly, she hears a knock on the door, but no one is outside. A few minutes later, the knocks resume more aggressively. She looks out the window, and sees a shadowy figure knocking on the door. She then hears a horse circling the property, but doesn't see any horses outside. Fearing for her life, she stands guard by the window while singing Christian songs. Finally, her grandma returns, who reveals that the spiritual guardians of the house played tricks on her because no one has visited the house in a while. After making peace with the spirits, Aki and her grandma sleep for a night then leave, never to return again.

"Penthouse"

Elvira, or Elvi for short, is a mother who owns an apartment building with a penthouse on the top floor. In 2019, she divorced her husband, AJ, who is a womanizer and often hurts her. Although she and her son Steven now live in her parents' house, she still visits the penthouse to collect rent and release her anger at AJ. One of these times, Elvi learns that Diane, one of the tenants, has seen AJ around the penthouse. Believing that AJ has returned to ask for forgiveness, Elvi decides to check the penthouse, but no one is there, so she goes home. The next day, Diane tells Elvi that she has seen AJ in the penthouse again, so Elvi returns again. She wants until midnight, the time AJ appeared for two nights in a row. Sure enough, a man appears at the door, but he isn't AJ. It's an evil spirit that was taking on his form. She blacks out and wakes up the next day to several tenants staring at her. One of them, Rico, explains that Elvi's fits of anger filled the penthouse with negative energy, giving the entity a way to appear to her and give her nightmares for months.

Tropes for both stories include:

  • Amicable Exes: Despite being divorced, Elvi still loves AJ and wants him to forgive.
  • Author Tract: "Penthouse" ends with a message about prayer and faith in God.
  • Being Watched: Aki feels someone is watching her from the old tree near her house.
  • The Casanova: AJ.
  • Dramatic Wind: Surrounds Elvi when she returns to the penthouse.
  • Non-Indicative Title: The story about the old house comes first.
  • Ominous Knocking: Aki is alone in the house when she hears this. At first, she sees no one outside, but she later sees what seems to be a Living Shadow knocking on the door.
  • Ominously Open Door: Aki and her grandma return to her childhood home only to find the door open. It doesn't help that it's been abandoned for six months.
  • Passing the Torch: After Elvi's supernatural experience, she has her older sister Elisa stay at the penthouse collect rent from the apartments.
  • Plagued by Nightmares: Elvi couldn't sleep for months after her experience.
  • Quieter Than Silence: Aki mentions that it is so quiet, she can only hear the Chirping Crickets outside.
  • When the Clock Strikes Twelve: Although no clocks are mentioned, the apparitions of AJ only appear at the penthouse at midnight.
