Recap / Simple Samosa Episode 7 "Tutti Frutti"

Go To

This episode begins with a girl named Tutti Frutti walking around town, catching attention from other townsfolk wherever she goes, especially the males who seem to be romantically attracted to her. When she gets home, her father, Mayor Royal Falooda, questions where she's been, why she's late, and why she didn't answer his call. An annoyed Tutti Frutti responds by saying her phone battery had died.

The next day, the mayor wakes up to find a note on his bed from Tutti Frutti. The note says that she has decided to run away to get away from the annoyance caused by her father constantly asking her questions. The mayor, who doesn't take this very kindly, calls Samosa about it. He goes to his house to have the situation explained to him, and they bring in a friend of Tutti Frutti's named Banta as a suspect. Samosa, deciding the mayor and Banta are crying too much to be of use, decides to go find the missing girl with Vada while Dhokla and Jalebi launch their own investigation.

Samosa and Vada go as far as to travel to a far-off snowy mountain on their investigation, but this yields no clues for the whereabouts of Tutti Frutti. After this, they take a bus to the town of Bubblegumpur to search for her there, and one of the town's locals mentions he knows where she is. Samosa and Vada are taken by the local to where Tutti Frutti has gone... but as it turns out, she never left Chatpata Nagar at all. Samosa and Vada finally spot Tutti Frutti hanging out with Dhokla and Jalebi.

When she finally comes back home, Tutti Frutti explains to her father that she never ran away - she went to Amma Spa, but was stuck for three days trying to find home because he never showed up. Falooda didn't read that part of the note she left.

"Tutti Frutti" contains the following tropes:

  • Audible Gleam: When Samosa initially whips out his detective magnifying glass, it has a visible shine for a split-second that is accompanied by a shimmering sound.
  • Character Title: The episode is named after the mayor's daughter, Tutti Frutti.
  • Daddy Didn't Show: Mayor Royal Falooda, under the mistaken assumption that Tutti Frutti has legitimately run away, fails to pick her up from the spa.
  • The Door Slams You: Tutti Frutti inadvertently hits Samosa and Vada by opening the doors of Amma Spa on them as she is leaving the building with Jalebi and Dhokla.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Samosa and Vada are flown back to Chatpata Nagar by the Bubblegumpur bubblegum bubbles, but they don't recognize it even though there's a sign where they are that says "Chatpata Nagar" on it.
  • Insane Troll Logic: When Samosa goes to Tutti Frutti's bedroom to find clues as to where she's run off to, he finds a picture of her and Falooda in front of a snowy mountain background and somehow comes to the conclusion that she went to the mountains because that's apparently "where it all began", her being an ice cream who would like cold places. Vada agrees with this unusual logic, pointing out that the world began with the Ice Age.
  • Kid Detective: Samosa briefly takes up this occupation to search for Tutti Frutti. He even wears a detective hat and carries around a magnifying glass at first.
  • Leitmotif: Tutti Frutti has a song which plays throughout the episode. It appears with a fuller set of lyrics at the beginning of the episode; otherwise, it's just the "I scream, yeah, you scream, we all scream for ice cream, yeah!" part. Later in the episode, this snippet plays when Samosa realizes Tutti Frutti isn't too far away.
I scream, yeah, you scream, we all scream for ice cream, yeah
Come on and have a scoop
    Any flavor, any fruit
Nothing can be cooler than me
I scream, yeah, you scream, we all scream for ice cream, yeah
I scream, yeah, you scream, we all scream for ice cream, yeah
  • Lustful Melt: A popsicle man melts upon seeing Tutti Frutti at the beginning of the episode.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Samosa goes to the town of Bubblegumpur on the search for Tutti Frutti, under the logic that the entire place is pink, and she'd probably want to be somewhere pink since it's her favorite color.
  • Popcorn on the Cob: A corn cob person's kernels pop after he sees Tutti Frutti.
  • Reaching Between the Lines: When a grieving mayor calls Samosa on the phone about Tutti Frutti, his tears literally pour out of Samosa's phone.
  • Rhyming Title: "Tutti Frutti".
  • The Runaway: Tutti Frutti gives her father a note indicating that she's running away, and Samosa and Vada go to investigate and find her, as do Dhokla and Jalebi with their own investigation. Later, they discover Tutti Frutti never actually ran away at all, and she was just hanging out at the spa.
  • Snowlems: Samosa and Vada encounter sentient snowmen on the snowy mountain and ask them for help finding Tutti Frutti.
  • Stopped Reading Too Soon: As it turns out, Tutti Frutti had just gone to Amma Spa and nobody thought to pick her up. This is mentioned plainly in Tutti Frutti's note to her father, but it isn't until after Jalebi and Dhokla return with her that Falooda realizes he didn't read that part of the letter.
  • Traveling at the Speed of Plot: The transition for Samosa and Vada taking a bus to the mountains indicates that the mountains are far away, yet they make it there and are back in Chatpata Nagar before the day is over.
  • Voiceover Letter: Tutti Frutti's voice is heard reading the letter she writes to her father Royal Falooda informing him that she's running away.
  • Wingding Eyes: Cham Cham and another townsperson look at Tutti Frutti with hearts for eyes.
