Chapter 5: Heaven
After the classes end, the exam week begins, so Shijima and Majime opt to study for their exams at a family-oriented restaurant named "Heaven." Shijima mentions that this marks her inaugural visit to a restaurant, leading Majime to playfully call her a "restaurant virgin" and proudly mention her frequent experiences at such establishments with her family. In response, Shijima refers to her as a "restaurant slut." After taking her usual order, Majime approaches the drink bar to "grace [it] with [her] presence". When she comes back with her drink, Shijima astutely points out Majime's misuse of the "sonkeigo" (respectful) and "kenjōgo" (humble) language forms when referring to her own and others' actions. Majime is taken aback by Shijima's smartness, which the latter denies due to skipping middle school to receive education at home from her sister instead. In comparison, Majime struggled to pass her entrance exams due to inadequate study habits. Furthermore, until now, Majime was oblivious to the fact that the restaurant she frequents is named "Heaven," which translates to the Japanese word "tengoku." Later, the girls overhear the blonde neighbor relishing in the "heaven" she went to after "dying" from working overtime at her part-time job as a convenience store clerk.
As the girls leave the restaurant, they realize that their efforts in studying have been unsuccessful thus far, which makes Majime worry about her ability to progress to the next year of high school. Unexpectedly, on the way, they encounter Shijima's older sister who shares an intriguing revelation about the method to identify an anomaly. She then proceeds to reap wheat in the field, despite Shijima's warning that she may face disciplinary action from a government official. While the girls assist Big Sis by checking the monitor she gave them, Shijima tells Majime that her sister is in fact a good teacher, though she is still uncertain whether it is beneficial or not.
