Recap / Scrubs S 3 E 2 My Journey

Go To

Turk and Carla set a date for the wedding, so JD wants to take Turk out for dinner to celebrate the end of an era, Turk has a problem with being straight with his feelings, until he sees a gay couple in the hospital. Carla finds a urine sample without a tag; she tries to find its patient. Elliott and Sean are back together but starting things up again is really hard because Elliott has a problem finding time for him, because of her job.

  • Call-Back: The Janitor was already established as an hispanohablante, when he said "Mentiroso!" on finding the shorts he gave JD in a dumpster.
  • Character Development: Turk gets over his homophobic bullshit and opens up with JD.
  • Determinator: Carla spends the episode tracking down where a urine sample (unlabeled) came from.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: JD isn't dealing well with Eliot dating Shawn.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Carla manages to intimidate the Janitor.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Turk opens up to his gay patient about being afraid to be open and vulnerable with another man, the guy responds "That's kinda gay.".
  • Married to the Job: Eliot is trying really hard to date Sean, but the hospital will always come first. Cox lampshades this by pointing out that he missed Jack rolling over for the first time because he was at the hospital.
Eliot: [to Sean] Look, I was planning on coming here and telling you that you'll always come first, but... truth is, that's not a promise I can keep. But the one thing I can guarantee you is that when it's my decision, I'll always choose you.
  • Not That There's Anything Wrong with That: Turk struggles with his friendship with JD due to a lot of internalized homophobia.
  • Skewed Priorities: Eliot is initially delighted because Shawn was crushed by her dumping him (I was that important to you?), but realizes that shouldn't be her focus.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: JD quietly calls Turk out for inviting the Todd out to their special evening. He just says "Whatever." and walks out. Turk recognizes that he hurt his friend, but doesn't yet know how to deal with it.
