  • Breaking the Fellowship: This episode confirms the Roses are ready to move on with separate lives, having come together as a family and grown as people. David is staying Schitt's Creek with Patrick and Rose Apothecary.
  • Character Development: In Season 1, the Roses are jubilant at the prospect of getting out of town for good. In this episode, as they celebrate actually getting to leave, the mood is bittersweet.
  • Easter Egg: The pink dress that Alexis takes back from Twyla is the pink Jill Sander dress she wears in the first scene of the pilot, when the Roses lose everything.
  • Fair-Weather Friend: The "friends" that David invited from New York to his wedding; Stevie tells David that "Apparently, an electronic music festival in Norway took priority," and then asks David why he wants to move back to a place that has been nothing but cruel to him. David's answer, "Because I wanna show those people I'm not a joke, that I've won".

    • Alexis offers Twyla the choice of her wardrobe, thinking she'll have to downsize when she and David move back to New York (where apartments are much smaller than television would lead you to believe).
    • Twyla takes her advice, buying the cafe and giving Alexis a check for a lot of money. Alexis turns it down, but asks Twyla to come visit her in NYC.
    Alexis: Hey, Twy... cute dress.
Twyla: Thanks. My friend gave it to me.
  • Group Hug: The Jazzagals try to give Moira one. She initially refuses the Hallmark moment, but then gives in.
  • He's Back!: Moira isn't just leaving Schitt's Creek, she's going back to Sunrise Bay. They gave in to all of her demands, even the diamond tennis bracelet (which can cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars).
  • I Choose to Stay: After spending so much time desperate to leave Schitt's Creek, David realizes that his business, his husband and his best friend are all in the town, and he tells his family he has decided to stay.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When viewing the house that Patrick offered to buy for David and himself, Stevie is shaken by David's genuinely emotional response; instead of snarky and dismissive, David is vulnerable and glassy-eyed.
  • Not So Stoic: Ronnie, of all people, starts crying when confronted by the fact that Moira is leaving town and the jazz choir.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: From the start, the episode launches the Bittersweet Ending nature of what's to come. Johnny pours mimosas and notes David looks unhappy. Roland pulls up in a new truck, having gotten rid of The Alleged Car. Stevie has traded in her flannels for business casual attire.
  • Precision F-Strike: Ronnie drops one when Moira announces she's leaving the Jazzagals almost immediately to rejoin Sunrise Bay. David drops another when Patrick tells him he'll make him so happy in Schitt's Creek.
    David: You'd fucking better.
  • Sand In My Eyes: Moira offers Ronnie a graceful out, Ronnie doesn't take it.
  • Secretly Wealthy: Turns out the lottery winner Twyla doesn't waitress for the money. When Alexis urges her to actually use the money for something, she buys the cafe.
  • Shout-Out: The episode shares its title with the opening lines of Sinatra's "New York, New York", the theme song to Martin Scorsese's film of the same name.
  • Single Tear: David sheds one as Stevie convinces him he doesn't need anything from New York.
  • Wham Line: David and Stevie share a pair when she convinces him to stay in Schitt's Creek by asking him why the hell he would want to go back to NYC and the people who've done nothing but hurt him.
David: Because I wanna show those people I'm not a joke, that I've won.
Stevie: David, look at this place. You've won.
  • Wine Is Classy: While Moira is leaving a message for a former Fair-Weather Friend about her return to high society, Johnny pours some mimosas, then announces "Kids! Breakfast is served!".
