Tropes That Appear in This Episode

  • The Alcoholic: Moira's former co-star has quit the hard stuff since his liver transplant, and now only drinks wine and Scotch. When we see him on an old video admitting he got Moira kicked off the show in a red carpet interview, he's visibly drunk.
  • Broke Episode: For the first time in a long time, Johnny shows real sorrow at his money having been stolen and thus not being able to pay for an elaborate wedding.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Moira greets Tippy by congratulating him on being as alive as ever.
  • Daytime Drama Queen: Alexis gets really into watching her mom's show, and David even watches and pays attention.
  • Determinator: Having watched Johnny struggle with the unexpected cost of the new foundation and David's extravagant wedding, and still reading his book, Stevie comes up with a plan to not sell the new motel and instead buy thirty more.
  • Dysfunctional Family: Moira mistook Clifton's real life legal conflict where his daughter demanded emancipation as a TV movie "with that potty-mouthed feral child".
  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: Moira's causal look is very glittery.
  • Fandom: Alexis gets key intel from the Sunrise Bay Fan Forum, which she becomes moderator of.
  • Innocently Insensitive: David turns out not to be oblivious to Johnny's concerns about the cost of the food, but his attempt to assuage Johnny's concerns only rubs salt in the wound.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: It is surrogate daughter Stevie who realizes Johnny's feelings are hurt and consoles him.
  • Obsessed with Food: David is very particular about what food he wants at the wedding.
  • One-Shot Character: Victor Garber, an old friend of Eugene Levy, appears as Clifton Sparks, a hammy actor and alcoholic and is clearly relishing every minute of it.
  • Opt Out: Moira intentionally demands far too much in her contract negotiation as a screw you to the people who screwed her career.
  • Put on a Bus to Hell: In-Universe, Vivienne Blake's last death on Sunrise Bay involved her vomiting a demon into a toilet and drowning, then being shredded. The writers told Moira this was symbolic but it really happened thanks to Clifton's behind-the-scenes scheming.
  • Shout-Out: The episode's title is a shout out to Fiddler on the Roof, the title of a song discussing the passing of time, growing older, and seeing your babies suddenly old enough to get marred. Oh, look, David is Jewish and getting married!
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Clifton is unaware that his star is falling as Moira's is rising.
  • Soap Within a Show: We finally see scenes of Sunrise Bay.
  • Stylistic Suck: Sunrise Bay is meant to parody the campy, often terrible but still popular supernatural soaps of the 1990s.
  • Take That!: Alexis recognizes Vivienne's last death as one of these.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: In Moira's In-Universe soap, she and her character's daughter were trapped in a cave for multiple episodes... with the daughter never noticing her mother was hanging above her because she never happened to look up.
