Chapter 61

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Anti-Magic: Buzzkill rigged Malachi's cell with tech that disrupts his illusion powers.
  • Call-Back:
  • Caught Monologuing: It's lampshaded how Buzzkill giving a monologue about his Evil Plan, with Buzzkill justifying it by saying that "It'sss a cliché for a reassson".
  • Devoured by the Horde: Miwa's trap-room has her precariously dangled above a pit filled with brain-worms.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • While in "The Fourfold Trap" the trap-rooms were devised by a brainwashed Karai, here they were made by Stockman/Buzzkill.
    • With Mikey and Donnie off on their own, their trap-rooms are instead used on April and Casey respectively.
    • In "The Fourfold Trap", when Splinter uses the Healing Mantras on Karai, she retreats after she's freed of the brainworms. Here, Tang Shen stays, having finally been reunited with her family with her mind back completely.
  • Frame-Up: Part of Buzzkill's plan was to blame Bebop and Rocksteady for the deaths of the Hamato Kids.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Buzzkill conveniently forgot that April was immune to mutagen, having been there when this was demonstrated in "Fly on the Wall", having been suffering "post-mutation hysteria" by the sudden change similar to when Slash was mutated.
April: ...you don't remember much about what happened the day you mutated, do you Stockman?
Buzzkill: I remember you kicking me in the face, and ssstealing my retro-mutagen! But other than that, it'sss a bit of a haze. Why?
    April: No reason.
  • Mundane Solution: How do they get Casey out of the Brain Boggler? April pulls the plug on it. Literally.
  • New Media Are Evil:
Casey: I finally get it. Video games are bad for you.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Buzzkill implies that Shredder plans on starting his own family with a brainwashed Tang Shen, thus her kids are disposable enough to be put through Buzzkill's lethal "Traps of Doom."
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: While April is immune to mutagen, here the threat is still real because even though the mutagen won't mutate her, she could still drown since her entire body is strapped down.
  • Synchronous Episodes: This chapter is set during the events of the last chapter, here following what the rest of the Hamato Clan are going through after Donnie and Mikey are separated from them.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Apparently all of Shredder's henchmen have group-meetings where they just complain about how much they hate the Kids, having devised each death-trap they are subjected too in their off-hours.
Casey: You hate them enough to have a whole group meeting about it?
    Buzzkill: Of courssse!
  • Wham Episode: Her sanity restored and mind purged of the brainworms, Tang Shen reunites with her family for good.
