Chapter 16

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In the original series, Mondo Gecko was mutated by the mutagen dumped in "The Mutation Situation", but he didn't officially appear until a season and a half later. Here Mondo Gecko appears only two chapters after.
  • Berserk Button: When one of the mutant squirrels escapes into Miwa's room, she bars Mondo Gecko from running after it, making it clear that no one goes into her room.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: When Mondo voices his concerns with hunting the Squirrelanoids, Splinter offhandedly mentions that such dangers are inherent in associating with his family. It is here that Mondo Gecko realizes that facing killer mutants is just another Tuesday for the Hamatos.
  • Easily Forgiven: Much like his canon-counterpart, Mondo Gecko takes the fact that his best-friend is partially responsible for his mutation in stride.
  • For Want Of A Nail: In "Invasion of the Squirrelanoids", the team sends Metalhead into the sewers to find where the Squirrelanoids have fled to. Here they send Leatherhead. While Splinter is still annoyed by this cop-out, Leatherhead understands completely, this version of the Hamatos far less familiar with the sewers than him.
  • Noodle Incident: Mikey had once gotten the door to Jason's home literally slammed in his face, hence why he doesn't just knock.
  • Shout-Out: Miwa shouts "get away from him you bitch" when one of the Squirrelanoids attacks Donnie.
