Clones of Sam are searching the city for the Toys of Power. Sam and Max must locate the source of these clones and stop whoever is responsible. Unfortunately, it is a Toy of Power called Charlie Ho-Tep and they have to destroy him to save the world.
Tropes:
- Bait-and-Switch: It looks like Girl Stinky is behind the Sam clones, but she and Sal end up brainwashed by the real mastermind.
- Berserk Button: Charlie Ho-tep hates when people (especially Norrington/Yog-soggoth) remind him that Junior didn't like him that much. You have to exploit this to solve the final puzzle by tricking him into destroying the Devil's Toy Box.
- Broken Record: The Sam clones keep repeating the word "toys" over and over.
- Daydream Surprise: One scene has Sam, with great reluctance, try to blend in with the Sam clones by putting on a pair of the golden shorts they're wearing. Then all the clones gather around and laugh at him, as does Max. Then it cuts back to Sam, still in his regular clothes, letting out a yell of horror and throwing the shorts into the bay. And then slapping Max for good measure.
- The Dog Was the Mastermind: It turns out Charlie Ho-Tep has a mind of his own, and was the one trying to take the Toys of Power for himself with the help of the Sam clones.
- 11th-Hour Superpower: Norrington helps unlock Max's full psychic potential in order for him to defeat Charlie Ho-tep.
- Fluffy the Terrible: The Devil's Toybox turns out to belong to an infant Elder God known as... Junior. Max is so baffled by the innocuous name he just keeps yelling "Junior?!" in increasingly incredulous tones.
- Heroic Willpower: Subverted. One puzzle involves Sam trying to fend off a clone by distracting it with a Fudgie Freeze. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts to resist, Sam will inevitably devour the Fudgie Freeze (stick and all) before he can put it in his inventory. The only way to prevent Sam from doing this is to make him eat a peanut butter ball, which will prevent him from biting into the Fudgie Freeze because he's too busy licking the roof of his mouth.
- Hope Spot: Charlie Ho-tep has been defeated, and the Devil's Toy Box has been destroyed. Unfortunately, Max landed in the eldritch goo that was going to be Junior's new vessel in the mortal world and swallowed some of it, and he ends up turning into a hideous giant monster and going on a rampage, setting up the plot of the final episode of the season.
- I Just Want to Be Loved: It turns out Charlie Ho-tep is trying to gather the Toys of Power and summon Junior in the hopes of being played with again.
- Interspecies Romance: Sam and Max discover that Sal is Stinky's mysterious boyfriend "Mr. S".
- Mythology Gag: If you use Psychic Ventriloquism on the jukebox in Stinky's Diner, Max will try singing "King of the Creatures", Conroy Bumpus's Villain Song from Sam & Max Hit the Road.
- Psychic Nosebleed: If you try to read the mind of the Doggelgangers near the warehouse, Max will complain "My nasal passages are about to receive a visit from Uncle Flo."
- Running Gag:
- Shout-Out: In the cloning facility, Sam can come across a strange blue dispenser and whack it with a wrench to fix it.
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Sam and Max are oddly nonplussed when they see "Prof. Norrington" is a Cthulhumanoid sticking out of Papierwaite's chest.
- Wham Shot: What do Sam and Max discover at the end of Girl Stinky's back-up secret tunnel? A massive cloning facility churning out Sam clones.
- You Can See That, Right?: If you ask Bluster Blaster about the Sam clones, he seems surprised that the Freelance Police noticed them too.
Sam: Do you know anything about these Sam clones running around?
Bluster Blaster: THOSE ARE REAL?!
Sam: Uh...Yeah?
Bluster Blaster: HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!
Max: I'll take that as a no.
