"You know, Chibi-usa, if you were planning to come back you could at least given us some warning. We already have enough problems to deal with as we try to handle the Daimons and the mysterious Guardians. So watch yourself and don't get into any trouble as Sailor Chibi-Moon, okay? Or else, In the Name of the Moon, I'll punish you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Tainted Tea Party")

After getting settled in 20th Century Tokyo, Chibi-usa begins her second mission of making everlasting friendships with kids her own age. So she sets her sight on a young master of tea ceremonies who's also garnered the attention of the adults around him, Outer and Witchly.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Acid Attack: Chagama is able to brew acidic tea to attack Moon and Chibi-Moon.
  • Burning with Anger: Usagi emits an angry black aura whenever she's dealing with Chibi-usa.
  • Call-Back: Chibi-usa uses the same transformation phrase from when her mother first transformed: "Moon Prism Power Make-Up!"
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: The Cloverway dub tries to downplay the weird boy's flashing scene by stating that he's wearing Sailor Moon underwear. We don't see said underwear and he has his own briefs in his hands in the next shot.
  • Continuity Nod: During their off-screen bickering, Rei brings up how Usagi begged Soiya to hit her first.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Eudial showcases her stellar driving skills by crashing into the tea master's traditional house without caring for the property damages.
  • Epic Fail: Pink Sugar Heart Attack manages to come out of the wand on the first try. Only for it to droop down 3/4ths of the way there before it can even reach Chagama.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing:
    • Just before Chibi-usa is traumatized by a ridiculous boy in public, a Shin-chan keychain is dropped in front of her. The boy would have an obnoxious personality very similar to the character, and even shared a voice actress in the original Japanese.
    • As the two Usagis approach the tea house for a second day, Haruka and Michiru are shown bolting away. They find out why shortly enough.
  • Flashback: There's a flashback that shows Neo Queen Serenity explaining her daughter's mission of making new friends in the 20th Century.
  • Friendless Background: Mamoru figures out that Chibi-usa didn't have any friends her own age in the future. This is why Chibi-usa longs to make Tamasaburou's acquaintance and make as many friends as she can.
  • Foreshadowing: Neo Queen Serenity informs Small Lady that she will have a destined encounter with someone special during her stay in the past.
  • Guilt by Association Gag: Usagi charges after Rei once Chibi-usa reveals that the future Sailor Mars told her tons of stories about Usagi's clumsiness and failures. While Rei fights back saying that Future Mars was responsible, Usagi still blames her since it was still her being mean.
  • The Illegible: Even after becoming Queen of Crystal Tokyo, Usagi is still horrible when it comes to writing.
    • In the original version, Minako points out how the letter is devoid of Kanji (an alphabet system that most Japanese people should know by adulthood) and how there are tons of grammar mistakes.
    • In the Cloverway dub, Mina admits that she had to imagine what Future!Serena was saying as the letter was filled with undecipherable squiggles and lines.
    • In the Viz dub, Minako mentions how it looks like a child wrote it, pointing attention to the spelling errors over the concept of Kanji which most Western children wouldn't understand.
  • Internal Reveal: Chibi Moon is introduced to the Outer Guardians.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Uranus admits to Chibi Moon that they didn't intend to save her; she and Neptune were only after the Pure Heart she managed to snag.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The first scene features Chibi-usa formally introducing herself, to the Inner Guardians and the audience, as she explains her presence and reasons for returning to the past.
  • Like Parent, Like Child: Rei is initially worried over Chibi-usa picking up on Usagi's negative qualities during her stay in the future while Chibi-usa assures her she won't. But to her dismay, she ends up showing several similarities to her mother that she wouldn't be fond of.
  • Magic Carpet: Chagama gets around on a floating magic pillow.
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • An elegant and romantic overscore plays when Chibi-usa meets a young handsome boy in the park. But then the mood is broken when the boy begins to speak.
    • Chagama begins her attack by "graciously offering" her acidic tea to the meddling Guardians. But she gets interrupted by Chibi Moon using Pink Sugar Heart Attack.
  • My Greatest Failure: Neo Queen Serenity leaves an extra note for her past self admitting that she regrets having not studied harder in her youth and begs Past!Usagi to do a better job with studying.
  • Oh, Crap!: Usagi is shocked to discover Eudial driving by, meaning that she's up to no good.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Usagi was not having a good time during Chibi-usa's introduction followed by the embarrassing letter her future self wrote for everyone. But she reaches it when she reveals how future Mars told countless stories of Usagi's incompetence.
  • Schmuck Bait: An annoyed Usagi asks out loud who had the bright idea to send Chibi-usa to the present for training. It's revealed that it was her future self who came up with it.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The episode ends with Usagi and Chibi-usa running away after Tamasaburou reveals that he's now a Sailor Moon fan and cosplays as a Sailor Guardian.
  • Sexy Coat Flashing: Chagama takes off her ceremonial robes when preparing her final attack. While she's wearing an iron pot themed underwear, the heroes are understandably uncomfortable.
  • She's a Man in Japan: Tamasaburou is written as a girl in the Cloverway dub to avoid the potential backlash of having a little boy being thought of as weird for cosplaying as a magical girl.
  • Shout-Out: A Shin-chan keychain appears and it's owner behaves quite similarly to the titular brat.
  • Talking Is a Free Action:
    • Subverted. Chibi Moon gives her second In the Name of the Moon speech only for Eudial to ignore her so she can summon her Daimon.
    • It happens again when the Daimon Chagama smacks her while she's teasing Sailor Moon.
  • Tea Is Classy: Tamasaburou is a young master of tea ceremonies and comes from a long line of professional masters who specialize in the art of tea.
  • Third-Party Peacekeeper: Mamoru takes on this role as he tries to convince Usagi and Chibi-usa to put aside their differences so they can help with the latter's friend-making mission.
  • Unfazed Everyman: Tamasaburou had zero issues with seeing Eudial drive her mini van straight through his home causing untold property damage.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Before leaving Chagama to finish Chibi Moon, Eudial states that she's gonna grab a coffee followed by a massage.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Tamasaburo dresses up in a makeshift sailor uniform after he was rescued by Moon and Chibi Moon. Apart from the reactions of the main girls, he seems to enjoy it.
  • Wingding Eyes: Chibi-usa gets stars in her eyes when she meets the handsome boy Tamasaburou believing him to be her special friend.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The weird boy's mother hits him on the head for flashing Chibi-usa and intends to give him a bigger punishment when they get home.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: An irritated Rei asks this after Minako reads Neo Queen Serenity's super simplistic letter explaining Chibi-usa's training.
