“Demande, hear me out! Saphir hasn't betrayed you! Please listen to what he has to say about the things he saw in the future! And what he found out about Wiseman! That man is just using you to accomplish his own evil objectives! That's right Demande. You're real enemy is Wiseman!”
Usagi Tsukino

(DIC Episode: "Brotherly Love")

Saphir escapes to the present after discovering Wiseman's shocking motives but sustains critical injuries from the Death Phantom himself. As fate would have it, he's rescued by his ex-girlfriend Petz and her redeemed sisters who do what they can to protect him from his desperate desire to reach out to his estranged older brother.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • All-Loving Hero: Mars and Jupiter explain to Saphir that they have a tendency to trust or help out any bad guys even if it could be a trap. They cite Sailor Moon as the one to inspire them in taking such a moralistic approach.
  • Badass in Distress: Black Lady manages to trap the Guardians in Dark Energy barriers using her badminton birdies.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Long ago, Usagi would have given anything for the bratty Chibi-usa to leave her house so things can go back to normal. Now that she's gone, Usagi is visibly upset and longs to bring her back.
  • The Bus Came Back: The Spectre Sisters return after having been absent since their Heel–Face Turn.
  • But Now I Must Go: In spite of his poor health and weakened body, Saphir leaves the safety of the Spectre Sisters so he can reach out to Demande in an attempt to talk to him.
  • Brought Down to Normal: A consequence for being purified by the Silver Crystal is that the Spectre Sisters can no longer use their original powers.
  • Bystander Syndrome: Defied. Calaveras shoots down Berthier's suggestion of going with Saphir by claiming that they would only get in the way now that they're powerless.
  • Call-Back: Koan brings up her older sister's misandry.
  • The Chessmaster: Wiseman decides to roll with Saphir stealing the reactor's control module by telling Prince Demande that he's gone mad and needs to be eliminated as soon as possible.
  • Citywide Evacuation: The citizens of Tokyo have resorted to evacuating as the Malefic Black Crystal begins to grow and emit intense dark energy to the public.
  • Downer Ending: Saphir dies thanks to Wiseman's trap, Chibi-usa is still within his clutches as Black Lady, and the Malefic Black Crystal continues to grow stronger.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: While alone in his chamber, Wiseman gloats about using Prince Demande to destroy the present-day world so that he can usher an era of nothingness.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Even though Demande is a despicable tyrant who isn't against raping girls, he still cares deeply for Saphir. Along with showing willingness to hear his pleas, he carries his dead body to be properly taken care of.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Saphir just happens to overhear Wiseman reveal his true name and motivations while spying on him.
  • Flashback Nightmare: After passing out from his injuries, Saphir recalls his adolescence where he and Demande use to admire the minimal nature found on Nemesis. It soon turns into a nightmare as Demande grew older and allowed himself to be swayed by Wiseman.
  • Friendship Moment: When Usagi is having a moment of self-doubt over Chibi-usa's turn to the dark side, Rei assures her gently that they'll find a way to bring her back together. This soft gesture manages to cheer her up.
  • I Found You Like This: Petz sees a battered Saphir walking poorly on the streets of Tokyo, so she and her sisters take him to their apartment so they can treat his injuries.
  • Heel Realization: Saphir comes to realize that the Clan's attempts to dominate the world were wrong after seeing how Petz was able to live a peaceful life on Earth alongside her sisters.
  • Her Heart Will Go On: While Petz is devastated by the death of Saphir, she intends to carry on with living while remembering him fondly.
  • Hope Spot: It appears that Demande is willing to listen to Saphir and gives him a chance to speak. But Saphir is suddenly struck by a burst of dark power by Wiseman before he could even begin.
  • The Magic Goes Away: With Luna-P gone, Ikuko's altered memories of Chibi-usa have disappeared.
  • Morph Weapon: Luna-P transforms into a mirror, a giant fan and a badminton racket to help her mistress battle the Sailor Guardians.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Wiseman, or Death Phantom, hopes to destroy Earth so he can bring about an era of silence and nothingness throughout the universe.
  • The Reveal:
    • We finally learn what Wiseman's true motives are in helping the Black Moon Clan.
    • Saphir is revealed to have been in a relationship with Petz and was indirectly responsible for her disdain for love and men.
  • Say My Name: Demande screams Saphir's name after he's killed by the Death Phantom.
  • Secret-Keeper: Apparently only Calaveras knew about Petz's past relationship with Saphir.
  • A Shared Suffering: Saphir convinces Petz to let him leave by pointing out that he cares for Demande and wouldn't want him to go down a path of destruction, just like Petz cares for her sisters and wouldn't want them to fall down similar paths.
  • Sneeze Cut: Played for Drama. Saphir's Last Words are him telling Petz that he's sorry. She reacts in shock that very moment, especially as his jacket suddenly falls to the floor.
  • Take Me Instead: Believing that Saphir will punish them for their defection, Petz offers to take full punishment on the condition that her younger sisters be spared. Fortunately, Saphir had no intention of punishing them even after learning of their betrayal.
  • Took a Level in Kindness:
    • Saphir takes notice of how Petz is noticeably more kinder and friendlier from before. She cites having learned true love from Sailor Moon and living on Earth as the reason she and her sisters have undergone such a change in personality.
    • Calaveras herself lacks her usual arrogance and acts more gentle towards her sisters.
  • Wham Shot: Upon his death, Saphir's bandages fall off which show his forehead free of the Black Moon sigil, representing his rejection of the Black Moon Clan.

"I will never forget you Master Saphir. You're smile will live on in my heart, forever."
