Minako shares a past tragedy from her time as Sailor V when her big sister figure Katarina comes by for a visit. Though things take a turn for the worse when her former ally is revealed to have been brainwashed by Kunzite to hunt down the Pretty Guardian.


Tropes in this episode include:

  • Bathos: While Artemis is talking with Luna about Minako disappearing, Usagi is seen choking on a dumpling.
  • Big Eater: Even after eating a big serving of food at the dumpling place, Usagi still ends up hungry.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Usagi, after having another nightmare about Tuxedo Mask.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Minako had given Katarina a golden locket for her birthday and notices she still wears it. When she later sees Papillon wearing the same locket, she realizes the horrible truth.
  • Cool Big Sis: Katarina is this to Minako.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Kunzite had learned about Minako being Sailor V and her connection to Katarina, so he hoped to exploit that to learn the Guardians' true identities. When Minako transforms into Sailor Venus in front of her, Papillon expresses complete surprise.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Sailor V managed to survive the bombing and was walking through an alley when she heard Katarina and Alan comfort each other and profess their love for one another.
  • Fan Edit: Due to the episode being cut from the original DIC run, fans have come together to give it a DIC-style episode, complete with the DIC intro, soundtrack and cues, as well as its own "Sailor Says" segment. (Unofficially dubbed "Venus' Love Triangle").
  • Flashback: Minako tells Usagi and the cats about her time in England and how she met Alan and Katarina.
  • Friendship Moment: When Luna asks Minako for details about this situation, Usagi (having noticed how sad Minako looked) suggests not pressing her right now.
  • Good-Times Montage: Minako weaves a montage of all the fun things she did with Katarina.
  • History Repeats: Artemis warns the girls that the dark spots appearing on the sun happened eons ago just before Silver Millennium was destroyed by the Dark Kingdom.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Minako left for Japan believing that Alan and Katarina would be happier together and were able to move on after her "death".
  • Internal Reveal: The girls learn about the secret computer in the Crown Arcade.
  • It's All My Fault: Sailor Venus blames herself for Katarina becoming a youma.
  • It's Not You, It's My Enemies: Minako forbids Katarina from meeting her teammates because she doesn't want to subject her to anymore danger.
  • Just a Kid: Katarina admits that she didn't consider Minako's romantic feelings for Alan under the assumption that she was just a kid who didn't know better.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Sailor Moon becomes more serious as she's driven to fight and punish Papillon for breaking Minako's heart.
  • Love Triangle: Minako was in love with Alan who ended up in a relationship with Katarina.
  • Magic Countdown: Sunspots begin to appear on the sun. Queen Metallia reveals that once they cover the sun, she'll be released from her sleep and wreak havoc on Earth.
  • Mood Whiplash: A touching scene featuring Luna comforting Usagi and worrying about her health is thrown off when Usagi reveals a bowl of dumplings and begins to chow on them.
  • Moth Menace: The youma Papillon resembles a giant butterfly woman and can send tiny green butterflies to attack her prey.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Sailor Moon instantly blames Katarina for stealing Alan from Minako and was okay with destroying her to avenge her idol.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Usagi wakes up at night around the same time Mamoru is infused with Queen Metallia's dark energy.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Usagi becomes an expert on sailing after using the Disguise Pen to turn into an actual sailor.
  • Oh, Crap!: In the flashback, Minako right before the grenade goes off.
  • Origins Episode: For Minako/Sailor Venus, and tells the story of what she and Artemis were doing before she joined up with the other Guardians.
  • Precious Photo: The photo inside Katarina's locket shows her, Alan and Minako when the three of them were happy. Minako herself owned a photo of herself and Alan before deciding to let go of it in the end.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Alan and Katarina believed Minako perished after the bombing incident in England.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Why did Dark Kingdom send a monster to England in the first place? The world may never know.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The golden locket Katarina wears was a gift from Minako whom she believed died.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Katarina was targeted because she knew that Minako was Sailor V.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: The supercomputer suddenly shows an image of the sun with growing sun spots. Artemis notes that a similar phenomenon happened when the Moon Kingdom was destroyed, fearing that a similar event is about to happen in the present.
