"Unforgivable, unforgivable, unforgivable! You know what's so unforgivable? Trying to ruin a lovely white wedding dress, the eternal dream of every young girl. I will not let you get away with this! I am Sailor Moon and In the Name of the Moon, I'll punish you!"
Usagi Tsukino

(DiC Episode: "Wedding Day Blues")

Usagi's home economics teacher is getting married and becomes Nephrite's new target. Usagi and Rei are both interested in entering a DIY wedding dress contest with the grand prize being a complete dream wedding that can be taken at any time.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Adaptational Context Change: In the original version, Usagi believed she couldn't go through with the contest since she sucks at sewing. In the DiC dub, Serena laments that she hasn't even gotten a date yet.
    • In the DiC dub, Serena is punished by her mother for attempting to use her curtains to make her dress. She is later seen crying over her hands from all the extra chores she's been doing. In the original, though we never see it, it's implied Usagi's mother actually did let her use the curtains, though at a price. Usagi crying over her hands was because her sewing skills were so poor she still couldn't make a dress in time and all she accomplished was poking her hands with a sewing needle.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Rei pretends to be a warm and well-mannered "friend" of Usagi's in order to convince Ikuko to help her with her sewing project. She soon drops the act after she realizes that Ikuko is useless to her.
  • Bowdlerise:
    • The gag where Usagi gets hit in the head with a tray by her mom is removed from the original English Dub.
    • So is the gag of Usagi being poked with various knives and weapons after a cutting remark from Rei is cut.
  • Bouquet Toss: Fitting a wedding themed episode, the newly wed Akiyama throws her bouquet which finds it's way to Ami.
  • Celibate Hero: Ami mentions that she doesn't plan on getting married herself and isn't interested in the contest like her friends.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Luna hides inside Usagi's wedding dress and keeps her from being hypnotized by Akiyama. Though Usagi awakens, she snaps at Luna for hiding inside her dress like a pervert.
  • Crush Blush: Usagi blushes when she imagines marrying Tuxedo Mask and Motoki.
  • Cultural Translation: In the original, the grand prize is a complete wedding. Since getting married at Usagi/Serena's age (14) is much more frowned upon in the West, the DiC version changes this to a vacation in Hawaii.
  • Dub-Induced Plotline Change: There are several major changes that occur between the original and the DiC dub.
    • In the original, Haruna encouraged Akiyama to go all out with her wedding as she's hoping to use that opportunity to find a man herself. In the English dub, Haruna says she should have a great dress because she's the sewing teacher.
    • As stated above, the original prize was an all-expense paid wedding reception whereas the dub modified it to a Hawaiian vacation.
    • In the original, a cursed Ms. Akiyama tells her visiting fiancé not to bother her until after the wedding contest is over. In the English dub, Ms. Lambert heartlessly break off her engagement to her fiancé Herbert.
    • The original Rei tried to steal her shrine's rental wedding dress for the competition while Raye in DiC used her grandpa's best linen sheets to make her dress.
  • Epic Fail: Rei seeks to cozy up to Usagi's mom, expecting her to help with the wedding dress contest since she's a housewife. The idea of Ikuko sewing at all is apparently so out there that Usagi never would've expected that was why Rei came to her house. It leaves Ikuko and Usagi laughing their asses off while Rei's left smiling and only starts comprehending her plans went horribly, horribly wrong.
  • Giant Spider: The youma, Widow, resembles an orange woman with giant spider features. And naturally, she has the ability to conjure webs to entrap Sailor Moon.
  • Give Geeks a Chance: Ms. Akiyama's husband to be isn't exactly Mr. Perfect but Akiyama was won over by his gentle and sincere personality. In the DiC dub, he works as a computer salesman which gave Melvin hope that his kind can find happiness like him.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Ami is more than willing to help Usagi make her wedding dress. That is, after she studies and reads the basics to sewing.
  • Imagine Spot: Usagi briefly imagines herself as a bride (with a French accent in the DiC dub) while dancing with her future husbands Tuxedo Mask and Motoki.
  • Loophole Abuse: Although the grand prize is a complete wedding reception, the announcer confirms that the prize can be used at any point in time. Meaning, a presently single person like Usagi or Rei could theoretically win the dress making contest, claim the prize, and use it in a future wedding.
  • Named In The Adaptation: The original version never gave a proper name to Akiyama's fiancé. In the DiC Dub, he's called Herbert.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Rei decides to cozy up to Usagi so she can get Ikuko's help with the wedding dress contest, in the original Japanese version she refers to her as "Usagi-chan." Usagi is immediately weirded out, as Rei never refers to Usagi using honorifics (the one time she ever did was in her introduction episode, and she immediately stopped after Usagi accidentally pissed her off).
  • Proud Beauty: During the dress competition, a brainwashed Akiyama declares that every man in the world should bow before her and that all women should kneel before her beauty.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Rei leaves the Tsukino household the second Ikuko admits that she can't sew for squat.
  • Self-Deprecation: Akiyama's fiancé doesn't not hold back in admitting that he's a boring salesman with no money to dazzle her.
  • Tranquil Fury: A smiling Ikuko smacks Usagi with a dessert plate after her daughter brought up that the dessert she brought out was "store bought".
  • Verbal Backpedaling: While arguing with the contest announcer over the big prize, Rei almost mentions that it isn't fair for single women but changes it to women who haven't decided on a date yet.
  • You Are Fat: In the DiC Dub, Serena sarcastically asks Raye if she's getting too big for her uniform after Raye asks if her mom knows how to sew.
