Recap / Sagwa The Chinese Siamese Cat S 1 E 16 Exploers Club Time For Everything

Go To

Explorer's Club consists of:

  • Heel–Face Turn: Dongwa and the Alley Cats.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Dongwa and the Alley Cats. They perform a Heel–Face Turn when they helped Sagwa's explorer's club team work together by climbing back up to the cliff. Both clubs become one once the teamwork is finished.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Dongwa tries to pass the test to get into the Explorer's Club, but fails like Sagwa has done, and sees Sagwa's club is gone.
  • Original Position Fallacy: Lampshaded. When Sagwa asks Dongwa and the Alley Cats if she can join their club, after failing to pass the initiation test, they make it a point that it's their club and they have the right to exclude her. Later, Dongwa tries to join Sagwa's club and fails, she makes it clear that she wouldn't allow him if she wanted. Dongwa shares what happened with his own club members, and one of them fumes how unfair it is. ...until it dawns on her that this is how they previously treated Sagwa.
  • Running Gag: "We're not taking any new members at this time."
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Dongwa and the Alley Cats laugh at Sagwa's naivety by trying to pass the test to get into Dongwa's club, and later Jet-Jet scares Sagwa, Fu-Fu, Sheegwa and Shei-Hu by calling their club "Scaredy Cats Club". But later, Dongwa and the Alley Cats turn into nice fellas by helping Sagwa's club climb back to safety before the ledge crumbles. They now become one club.

Time for Everything consists of:

  • Both Sides Have a Point: Dongwa and Baba have a heart-to-heart about what's been on their minds lately. Dongwa explains that Kung-fu means a lot to him and it would be unfair to force him to give it up for calligraphy. While Baba understands and will gladly let his son attend the Kung-fu tournament, he reasons that he never meant for calligraphy to be a chore, but more like an artform or a talent the way Kung-fu is.
  • Butt-Monkey: Dongwa.
  • Liar Revealed: Sagwa volunteers to help Dongwa with his calligraphy in order to help him get to Kung-Fu practice sooner. Later, Dongwa has Sagwa do the same thing again. ...Only to be caught red-pawed.
  • Nightmare Sequence: After scolding his children, Baba has a nightmare of his childhood learning calligraphy and feeling trapped in it, since his father forced him to continue to work instead of play.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: When Baba has a nightmare about being forced to work on his calligraphy as a kitten, he looks over at his sleeping son Dongwa and realizes he's treating his son no better than his own father did him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When his children are caught in the act, Baba calls out Dongwa for essentially cheating by taking credit for his sister's work, and even accusing Sagwa for helping her brother cheat.
Baba: You're making your sister do your work?!
    Dongwa: I-I-I...uh...
Baba: And you! Helping your brother to deceive me! That's not like you! What do you two have to say for yourselves? (Sagwa and Dongwa are shocked into silence) Well, until you can come up with an explanation for this, you are both confined to your quarters! (storms off)
    Dongwa: But, Baba, tomorrow's the—!
    Baba: AND THAT IS FINAL!
    • Tai-Tai scolds her daughter for sneaking off into the kitchen instead of getting beauty sleep for her dancing lessons. (She gets better when she learns her daughter has a passion for cooking).
