Hondo must work with F.B.I. agent Elle Trask, an old flame of his, to track down a group of Japanese separatists trying to smuggle weapons-grade plutonium out of the country. The annual competition between the LAPD and the Los Angeles Fire Department hots up when Luca finds himself facing an imposing opponent in the arm wrestling contest.


Tropes

  • Dirty Bomb: The LAPD and FBI are working together to hunt down a radical faction of the Okinawan independence movement since they want to use a dirty bomb against USFJ bases for the crimes committed by USFJ military and civilian personnel against the local populace, with assistance from a corrupt research assistant from a research center who's Only in It for the Money.
  • Friendly Rivalry: The competitive banter between the LAPD and the Los Angeles Fire Department is full of this.
  • It's Personal: The younger brother of the Japanese extremist killed by S.W.A.T. explains his elder brother's motives for joining the group was wanting justice for their teenage cousin, who was raped by a military contractor on an American Army base in Japan that the American military and the Japanese government covered up to avoid a scandal.
  • Renegade Splinter Faction: The main threat of the episode is from a group of Japanese militants deemed too extreme for the official Okinawa separatist movement who want to detonate a nuclear bomb on an American military base in Japan.
  • Suicide by Cop: One of the Japanese extremists, too badly injured to escape with the others and cornered in a record shop, chooses to shoot at Chris and Street rather than surrender and gets gunned down.
  • Title Drop: The LAPD refer to themselves as "The B-Team" next to the FBI team.
  • Villain Ball: Not paying the person who provided the extremist with the material he needed leads to said person shooting at them, causing them to crash, and attracting the attention of law enforcement.
  • Working with the Ex: Hondo finds himself working with his ex-girlfriend for the case.
