One day, Mario discovers that the castle is empty and eerily quiet. He soon finds an old VHS tape that unleashes a terrifying creature who may or may not have something to do with Luigi going missing. Can Mario and Meggy get to the bottom of this?

  • Analog Horror: The main gimmick of the episode: Mario finds a series of spooky VHS tapes that start out perfectly normal but take an ominous turn towards the end, which, when viewed together, paint a picture of Luigi getting taken over by a cursed Philips CD-i console. The concept is parodied when Mario uses the most terrifying VHS of all to save the day, an unmodified copy of the live action Super Mario Bros. (1993) movie.
  • Badass Boast: Meggy makes one when she and Mario decide to get payback on Phillip for what happened to Luigi.
Meggy: Buddy, we've fought literal gods. You think you intimidate us?
  • Brick Joke: While trying to get away from Phillip, Mario and Meggy encounter Toadsworth wearing a Princess Peach dress. At the end of the video, he presumably attacks everyone and makes a recording of himself threatening the viewers not to tell anyone about his little secret.
  • Body Horror: Luigi gets possessed by a cursed Phillips CD-i and turns into a blob monster. He's seen melting in the shadows.
  • Call-Back:
    • Meggy visits the castle to get paint to remodel her house because she remembered there was paint in the basement, referring to how Mario and Meggy first met in "If Mario Was in... Splatoon".
    • This isn’t the first time Mario used the Super Mario Bros. movie to save the day. He also used it to defeat Nintendoom in "AREA 64".
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The one who sold Luigi the cursed CD-i? Morshu.
  • End of an Age: This is the last episode where Lizzie Freeman voiced Meggy.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: At the end of the video, Toadsworth threatens the viewer if they tell anyone his secret. This is immediately followed by the sound of a knock on the door before the credits roll.
  • Good All Along: Turns out Philip just wanted his CD-i back and wanted to keep it from turning Luigi into a monster.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Mario and Meggy end up terrifying the monster Phillip when they think he has something to do with Luigi's disappearance.
  • Karma Houdini: No one ever appears to figure out that Morshu was the one who sold Luigi the cursed CD-i.
  • Meaningful Name: Phillip is the owner of the cursed Phillips CD-i.
  • Mook Horror Show: One of the tapes in the video is filmed by Mario while he and Meggy are hunting a terrified Phillip, the monster from the other tapes who's been following them.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Philip comes off as a creepy monster who's attacking everyone, but it turns out he just wants his cursed CD-i back.
