Recap / SMG4's Mario Bloopers If Mario Was In Sonic Movie 2

Go To

Mario’s back with Sonic, this time to save his marriage.

When Sonic and Swagmaster's wedding gets interrupted by Eggman stealing the Chaos Emerald ring, Mario gets roped into helping Sonic get it back.

Tropes:

  • Backing Away Slowly: Samus backs away from Eggman while in her chair when their Tinder date goes badly.
  • Becoming the Mask: Sonic going with the wedding is a result of Chris threatening to shoot him if he doesn't go with it. By the end of the episode, Sonic genuinely falls for Swag after the latter reassures him that it's the inside that counts.
  • Book Ends: The video starts and ends with Sonic and Swag's wedding.
  • Breaking Old Trends: This is the first post-arc episode since "Mario's Late!" (after the Waluigi Arc) to not be a "Serial Escalation shitpost" plot.
  • Call-Back:
    • Swag's crush on Sonic since the first "If Mario Was in... The Sonic Movie" has reached its peak in this episode, where they are now an engaged couple and successfully wed at the end.
    • After Knuckles gets turned into a Ugandan Knuckles, SMG3 pops out from the Internet Graveyard and drags him in with a big, disturbing smile on his face, as if he'll be a replacement for Terrence since his death in SMG4 Movie: Revelations.
    • Mario's reaction to being transformed into an ugly doll is the same one as his reaction to being turned into Hobo Mario in "THE BOOTLEG DIMENSION".
Mario: Hey, I don't look half bad!
    • At the end of the episode, when Sonic is asking if Swag still wants him as a hideous meme, Swag gives the exact same reason he gave for falling in love with Sonic in the first place:
Swagmaster: Oh Sonic. Its not about whats on the outside. Its whats in here that counts
      • And before you ask, yes, Swag's still looking for that bashing.
  • Depending on the Writer: Expected Tails to say "NOTICE ME SENPAI" or at least appear mentally disabled? Nope, he's just as hospitable as his game counterpart here.
  • The Drag-Along: The only reason Mario's even involved is because Sonic decided to take him with him against the poor plumber's consent. Mario's barely even involved in the action anyway, having a hard time catching up with the Sonic characters and only has a few notable roles in the episode.
  • Enemy Mine: Knuckles teams up with Sonic after remembering that Eggman just dumped him (both figuratively and literally).
  • Forced Transformation: Eggman's ray gun makes anyone it zaps into an uglier or more realistic version of themselves. By the end, everyone at the reception (except Swag, Chris, and a couple of extras) are still stuck in their transformed states.
  • Gender Bender: Toad ends up a victim of this courtesy of Eggman's ray gun, with the fourth shot from it turning him into Kinoko Komori.
  • Mundane Utility: What does Eggman want to use the Chaos Emerald for? Making himself handsome enough to find a date on Tinder.
  • Mythology Gag: Tari's ugly form? Her concept art design.
  • Noodle Incident: Sonic and Knuckles apparently dated before.
  • Perpetual Smiler: In his Jim Carrey form, Eggman's only seen smiling regardless of his mood.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: Turns out Sonic dated Knuckles at some point in the past. The ending also implies he's grown into his relationship with Swag.
  • Sequel Episode: To "If Mario Was in... The Sonic Movie", both in concept as a spoof of a sequel to the movie the previous episode spoofed, and in the plot of Swag and Sonic becoming a couple (no homo).
  • Shotgun Wedding: Chris holds Sonic at gunpoint to say "I do" at his wedding with Swag at the beginning of the episode.
  • True Beauty Is on the Inside: Despite Sonic getting turned into an ugly Sanic by the end of the episode, Swag reassures Sonic that it's the inside that counts.
  • Uncertain Doom: At the end, Eggman gets turned into an actual egg by his own raygun and squished. After that, he's not seen again or confirmed to be dead.
