Recap / Rune Scape The Giant Dwarf

Go To

Five hundred years have passed since the rule of King Alvis, saviour of Keldagrim and victim of his own inventions.

He founded the Consortium: the gathering of Mining companies that were to serve the monarchy. But, eventually, the monarchy came to serve the Consortium.

By the time of his death, the monarchy was all but abolished. Now the Kings in Keldagrim are but a distant memory... with only the statue of King Alvis to remind the people of the old days, the dark days.

Well, at least until your boat crashed into the statue while entering Keldagrim. Whoopsie! To make it up for them, you volunteer to help fix the statue. However, there's a conflict as to who the statue's face might be- it's been decided to make the face in the image of one of the Consortium companies' leaders. Hreidmar, leader of the Red Axe company, wants it to be him. But not everyone agrees with that, so they decide to allow the adventurer who helped fix the statue to choose, as a compromise (shame the Red Axe doesn't allow humans to join- then you might have voted for them).

This quest contains the following tropes:

  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Dwarves mining companies are named in the pattern [Color] [Object]. The largest company in Keldagrim is the Red Axe.
  • Fantastic Racism: The Red Axe bars humans from joining.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The Red Axe company is rude to you and won't let you join because you're human. This drives your tiebreaker vote to a different company, ruining Hreidmar's plan.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The adventurer kicks off the quest by accidentally destroying an important statue.
  • Sore Loser: Whichever company (bar the Red Axe) you elect to have their director's head erected onto the Giant Dwarf, Hreidmar doesn't take your decision well at all, and storms out of the Consortium meeting room.
  • Spanner in the Works: Hreidmar's plan to be the face of the statue might have worked- if it hadn't been suggested that you decide who the face would be. Your decision depends on which Consortium company you joined earlier in the quest- and the Red Axe doesn't allow humans, so you can't join them and thus won't vote for Hreidmar.
