Recap / Rune Scape Meeting History

Go To

That enchanted key you were given during Making History was a neat treasure finder, but not much else- except, it is. Turns out it can also allow you to time travel back to the beginning of the First Age, meet a family of the first settlers on Gilenor, and learn how humans came to be on Gilenor and use runes for magic. In case you were wondering: humans were the first sentient species on Gilenor, brought there by Guthix (depicted as a humanoid in green robes seen from the back). Guthix gave humans magic by using the Stone of Jas (the first onscreen appearance of the game's most prominent MacGuffin) to create runes and the Runecrafting Altars.

The quest is also a bit more important to the elf storyline than it seems at first glance.

Tropes

  • Early-Bird Cameo: Guthix and the Stone of Jas, long before The World Wakes and While Guthix Sleeps, respectively.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Guthix as seen in this episode doesn't look anything like his official model seen in The World Wakes.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: The key you got is useful for more than just learning a good deal about the game's lore- it plays a key (pardon the pun) role in the later quest The Light Within.
  • Time Travel: The Enchanted Key lets you do this, it turns out. The quest is about using it to travel back to the beginning of Gilenoran civilization and helping a family of settlers survive to be the ancestors of humanity.
