Tropes for this episode include:
- Big-Breast Pride: Kurumu (figuratively) shoves it in Yukari's face that her breasts are bigger and her whole song number is essentially about this.
- Cat Fight: Kurumu and Yukari quickly devolve to this when they try seducing Tsukune, even going so far as to tell him to back off so that they could settle the score.
- Dream Sequence: The episode starts with Tsukune dreaming about winning a soccer game and confessing his feelings to Moka, only for him to wake up to Moka feeding off of him. Later, he has a similar sequence involving the two of them in the swim-club.
- Fanservice: Every girl (except for Yukari) is in a bikini set, shots of breasts and butts are in a surplus, all the guys won't shut up about how sexy they all look (except for Tsukune), all of the contestants in the pool games are women, Kurumu's song is about her Big-Breast Pride and it just goes on and on.
- Fight Off the Kryptonite: Inner Moka is submerged in water, which disrupts a vampire's power and essentially electrocutes them on contact. She nonetheless manages to shake it off and take out the Swimming Club mermaids trying to eat Tsukune, with some external help from Kurumu and Yukari.
- Glamour Failure: It is when Nekonome is lecturing the students about staying in their human form does one of the students point out her tail is showing. She scratches him the face in response.
- Kill It with Water: Here it's revealed that vampires cannot touch untreated water without being painfully shocked.
- Monster of the Week: The Swimming Club and its president Tamao Ichinose are all mermaids who lured various members of the student body so that they could suck the life out of them.
- Mummy: One of the school clubs is a Mummy Club. All of their members are mummies.
- Pool Scene: Most of the episode is set at the school's pool, with various swimming games and girls in bikinis mixed in.
- Poor Communication Kills: Tsukune joins the Swimming Club because he wanted to impress Moka (unaware that water is harmful to her), while Moka thinks he joined because she thinks he wants to leer at other girls in bikinis. It is not until Inner Moka is hit with a splash of water does he find out the truth.
- School Swimsuit: Yukari is the only one who dresses in a regular Japanese school swimsuit in-contrast to everyone else in bikinis.
- Villain Ball: Tamao initially has the upper hand against Moka, since vampires are weak against water and mermaids are empowered in it. However, Moka easily baits her into jumping out of the water and losing her advantage, allowing her to put her down with a kick in the face.
- What the Hell, Hero?: After defeating Tamao, Inner Moka slaps Tsukune and proceeds to chew him out for even getting in the water with her in the first place, especially since seeing him with Tamao really hurt Outer Moka's feelings. Her exact words are as follows:Inner Moka: You listen to me. You don't understand a single thing about her, so don't pretend like you do. You're a little boy who can't think of anyone but himself. Consider her feelings sometime.
