"The High Five of Doom" provides examples of:/

  • Bad "Bad Acting": Rocko does this as he "accidentally" knocks Filburt's journal off the coffee table when he cleans under it.
Rocko: (in a half-hearted tone) Oh, dear. Filburt's diary has fallen off the coffee table, and... it didn't open. Thank goodness.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: This exchange when Rocko and Heffer meet Filburt at Chewy Chicken:
Rocko: Uh, do you have any plans for later?
    Filburt: Plans?
Heffer: Uh, you know, go to the park, see a movie... burst out of someone's chest?!
  • The Cameo: The artist working on a painting who gets vaporized by the titular high-five of doom is the Andy Warhol caricature from "Junk Junkies".
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Heffer shouts, "Chewy Chicken is people!" as Rocko pushes him out of Chewy Chicken, a family of chickens overhear him and say "Phew! That's a relief."
  • Eye Scream: When Rocko and Heffer spy on Filburt from the roof of his trailer, their eyes get stuck in the grate of its vent.
  • Furniture Blockade: To prevent Filburt from getting into Rocko's house, Rocko and Heffer put various furniture in front of the front door. Filburt manages to get in through the back door.
  • Iris Out: This episode ends with one on Rocko's house as Filburt stands outside it.
  • Klaatu Barada Nikto: Heffer mangles it as "Quad Tuberata Nicto!"
  • Saw It in a Movie Once: When Heffer says "Quad Tuberata Nicto!", leaving both Filburt and Rocko confused, Heffer tells them he's speaking an alien language, since he saw it in a sci-fi movie.
  • Shout-Out: When Rocko pushes Heffer out of Chewy Chicken as the latter suspects that Filburt is an alien, Heffer shouts, "Chewy Chicken is people!", a reference to a similar line from the 1973 film, Soylent Green.
  • Sudden Name Change: From this episode onward, the Chokey Chicken restaurant is renamed Chewy Chicken, due to the former name referring to "choking the chicken", a euphemism for masturbation.
  • Your Television Hates You: When Rocko is tasked with holding onto Filburt's private journal to keep Heffer from reading it, Rocko is tempted to read it even though he knows it's wrong. He tries to keep his mind off it by watching television, but the show he turns to is Celebrities' Private Lives, where the announcer says that nothing's more fascinating than other peoples' secrets.

"Fly Burgers" provides examples of:

  • Bankruptcy Barrel: Flecko gets the idea to slap Rocko with a Frivolous Lawsuit from watching an advertisement that features a brief scene of a character wearing a barrel.
  • Carnivore Confusion: In this episode, Rocko receives some Grade AAA Australian beef from his parents, and tries to keep it safe from Heffer, as despite being a steer, Heffer is shown to enjoy eating beef. Perhaps justified in that Heffer was raised by a family of wolves.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Judge Sockner turns Rocko into a fly and sentences him to 30 days as one when Flecko sues him. He returns Rocko to his normal self after he finds out that Flecko faked his injuries.
  • Courtroom Episode: In this episode, Rocko tries to cook some burgers, which attract a hungry fly named Flecko. When Rocko tries to shoo Flecko away, Flecko feigns an injury and sues Rocko, resulting in Judge Sockner sentencing Rocko to 30 days as a fly as punishment. While Flecko is dining at a restaurant, Sockner happens to be dining at that same restaurant and discovers that Flecko faked his injuries, at which point he finds Rocko and reverses the spell, but forgets to remove his fly wings.
  • Frivolous Lawsuit: Flecko tries to get access to Rocko's high-quality beef by falsely suing Rocko for injuring him, resulting in Rocko being sentenced to being turned into a fly. The sentence is reversed when it is discovered that Flecko faked his injuries.
  • Kangaroo Court: Rocko, who is ironically a wallaby, faces a particularly lopsided case after being sued by Flecko for hitting him with a spatula. The judge not only refuses to listen to him, but the (all-insect) jury sentences him to become a fly for 30 days.
  • Meaningful Name: Judge Sockner is a sock puppet.
  • Not Quite Back to Normal: After Judge Sockner reverses the spell, he forgot to remove Rocko's fly wings.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Flecko trips on a rock and acts as if he broke his leg and neck to sue Rocko, since Rocko had earlier tried to swat him away for trying to eat the burgers he was grilling. Flecko wins the lawsuit and Judge Sockner sentences Rocko to 30 days as a fly as punishment, but Flecko's ruse is exposed and the spell placed on Rocko is reverted when Judge Sockner discovers he faked his injuries.
  • Ow, My Body Part!: Flecko shouts "Ow! My neck! My leg!" after tripping over a rock to make it sound like Rocko injured him.
  • Shout-Out: This episode's title card depicts Rocko in the same pose as the mascot for the Bob's Big Boy restaurant, as well as the waitress on the cover art for the Supertramp album, Breakfast in America.
  • Tablecloth Yank: At the party that Heffer and Filburt throw at Rocko's house, an elephant does this after Filburt builds a pyramid from Rocko's china.
  • Trash Landing: Rocko lands in a garbage can after a pig construction worker spits him out for landing on the burger he was eating.
  • With Friends Like These...: After Rocko is turned into a fly, Heffer and Filburt decide to throw a party at Rocko's house and invite the citizens of O-Town, who trash it. Rocko is rightfully angry with them when he finds out.
